if you can get some e3 plugs thea are like 9.99 ea.
If the oil's just on the ';top'; of the plugs, i.e. not the bit inside the engine, it may just be the rocker cover leaking slightly. If you mean the noses of the plugs, i.e. the parts that are inside the engine, I'd have thought you'd be noticing a misfire, perhaps a difficulty in starting and/or blue smoke, and you're clearly not. Is it still happening with your new plugs? Quickest way by far is to pop around to a mechanic and get him to give you an opinion.
Regarding the heat, it's probably the gaiter around the gearstick either loose or damaged, it's allowing heat from the engine/gearbox area to come into the car.
Oil is entering the combustion chambers of these two cylinders. Its either coming from worn piston rings or leaking valve seals. No way of telling without doing a compression check. Unless the plugs were really soaked in oil you probably have nothing to worry about as the car is not smoking out the tailpipe. Look for blue smoke while driving the car. The powerful ignition systems on modern cars will keep the plugs firing unless a ';whole bunch'; of oil is getting into the CCs. But in that case you would see blue smoke out the tailpipe. Since you are using some oil. You want to check the dipstick every once and awhile. Add oil as needed. You must be in England. Because I have no idea what a ';gator'; is, unless it swims and eats people. Use of the word ';gator'; to describe a car part sounds so ';english'; to me. If you have a hot Alligator in your car then you got a real problem! England has a good net car club for Miata's where you can ask questions. I own a ';97'; Miata and Love It. Good luck!

A little oil on the plugs is nothing to worry about and in a lot of engines is quite common. This will cause no trouble unless the spark plugs are on their last legs and their electrodes have worn down or you don't clean/check them every couple of thousand miles.
The gaiter is a rubber ';sock'; that the gear lever passes through. its designed to keep heat,fumes and dirt from entering the cabin. Its a fairly cheap part and an easy repair.

If you had oil on your plugs you should have blue smoke.
Make sure that the valve cover is tight and not leaking.
Verify that you have the right plugs for your vehicle.
As for the heat, no idea.

5W30 or 10W40 depending upon where you live. Usually a check engine light means you have a bad oxygen sensor. Take it the dealer and have them scan it to be sure.
Drive over to your neighborhood AutoZone or other auto parts store and any of the folks there will help you out for free.
The engine light may be related to a recommended mileage prompted check up.While you are at the auto parts store ask them if they can check out your vehicle as far as coolant fluid levels,etc.They may also be able to erase the service engine soon light. When the oil needs to be changed the oil lamp should light. If all your lights are on you may have a problem in the computer or more than likely it is a problem with the lights in the dash. Take it to the dealer or a real good mechanic who knows electrical. They should be able to run a diagnostic check on the computer. It is better to be safe than sorry. Check your oil and pay attention to the two different markings on the stick for hot and cold. Most definitely get a diagnostics check for all your sensors. There are a bunch of sensors through out your car that would make your check engine light go on. To find out exactly which are those reporting a problem you will have to go to the shop there is realy no way around it. Expect to pay between 50.00 and 60.00 dollars for your peace of mind unless your car is under warranty. Good luck and I hope you figure this out. It is always stressful when your dealing with the unknown.

It seems your oil pressure is low. You are either low on oil or your oil pump is going bad. You need to not drive it until you see what is wrong. You can seriously damage your engine if either of the above are correct.
