does this mean anything, i have no trouble starting the car and there is no smoke, and she drives great
also when i change gear there is alot of heat coming from where i change gear i was told its the gator ?
any help...............................Need help with my car, i had a service on my MX5 and changed the plugs there was oil on 2 plugs?
If it was severe oiling on the plugs it might be worth getting a compression check done as this will find out if the rings are worn .and the heat bit probably is the gator,Is it damaged?Need help with my car, i had a service on my MX5 and changed the plugs there was oil on 2 plugs?
whats the plug #
if you can get some e3 plugs thea are like 9.99 ea.
If the oil's just on the ';top'; of the plugs, i.e. not the bit inside the engine, it may just be the rocker cover leaking slightly. If you mean the noses of the plugs, i.e. the parts that are inside the engine, I'd have thought you'd be noticing a misfire, perhaps a difficulty in starting and/or blue smoke, and you're clearly not. Is it still happening with your new plugs? Quickest way by far is to pop around to a mechanic and get him to give you an opinion.
Regarding the heat, it's probably the gaiter around the gearstick either loose or damaged, it's allowing heat from the engine/gearbox area to come into the car.
Oil is entering the combustion chambers of these two cylinders. Its either coming from worn piston rings or leaking valve seals. No way of telling without doing a compression check. Unless the plugs were really soaked in oil you probably have nothing to worry about as the car is not smoking out the tailpipe. Look for blue smoke while driving the car. The powerful ignition systems on modern cars will keep the plugs firing unless a ';whole bunch'; of oil is getting into the CCs. But in that case you would see blue smoke out the tailpipe. Since you are using some oil. You want to check the dipstick every once and awhile. Add oil as needed. You must be in England. Because I have no idea what a ';gator'; is, unless it swims and eats people. Use of the word ';gator'; to describe a car part sounds so ';english'; to me. If you have a hot Alligator in your car then you got a real problem! England has a good net car club for Miata's where you can ask questions. I own a ';97'; Miata and Love It. Good luck!
went a few oil changes or longer than recamended ?
as for the heat, shift boot that covers the ...... ?
A little oil on the plugs is nothing to worry about and in a lot of engines is quite common. This will cause no trouble unless the spark plugs are on their last legs and their electrodes have worn down or you don't clean/check them every couple of thousand miles.
The gaiter is a rubber ';sock'; that the gear lever passes through. its designed to keep heat, fumes and dirt from entering the cabin. Its a fairly cheap part and an easy repair.
have a word with these people and they will put you right.
www.samgoodwin.co.uk
They deal only in mx5's ...mainly the older pop up headlight type but they are experts.
Good luck and don't worry.
get some higher spec plugs ask at Halfords they stock them.
its your piston rings at fault i would think
If you had oil on your plugs you should have blue smoke.
Make sure that the valve cover is tight and not leaking.
Verify that you have the right plugs for your vehicle.
As for the heat, no idea.

What kind of OIL does a 2001 Aztek take & What does it mean when this Service Engine Soon light comes on?
Im cluess HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!What kind of OIL does a 2001 Aztek take %26amp; What does it mean when this Service Engine Soon light comes on?
the oil is 5w30 and the engine light could be almost anything. Normally emmisions related. Check your gas cap first and make sure that it is tight. This is the most common thing that trips a check engine light on newer cars. What kind of OIL does a 2001 Aztek take %26amp; What does it mean when this Service Engine Soon light comes on?
Service engine soon light means some component has failed to meet the guide lines put forth for keeping smog levels low.(eg.You could have left the gas cap to loose.)
go to your local auto parts store and they will tell you. as far as the light have a mechanic look at it.
5W30 or 10W40 depending upon where you live. Usually a check engine light means you have a bad oxygen sensor. Take it the dealer and have them scan it to be sure.
Drive over to your neighborhood AutoZone or other auto parts store and any of the folks there will help you out for free.
The engine light may be related to a recommended mileage prompted check up.While you are at the auto parts store ask them if they can check out your vehicle as far as coolant fluid levels, etc. They may also be able to erase the service engine soon light. This should all be done for free.hidden myspace

I have a 1999 grand am and all my service lights are on. When I get my oil changed just that light goes on?
When the oil needs to be changed the oil lamp should light. If all your lights are on you may have a problem in the computer or more than likely it is a problem with the lights in the dash. Take it to the dealer or a real good mechanic who knows electrical. They should be able to run a diagnostic check on the computer. This will tell them what you need to do.I have a 1999 grand am and all my service lights are on. When I get my oil changed just that light goes on?
Your check engine light will stay on after an oil change if your odometer has passed your limit for an overhaul on your car,Usually 50,000 miles, and 100,000 miles. When you take your car to be serviced they will hit a switch to turn off the lights.Hope this helps.I have a 1999 grand am and all my service lights are on. When I get my oil changed just that light goes on?
If your service lights are on that basicaly indicates a problem. If you just had the oil changed I would go back to the auto shop where you had it done and ask them to check if they had to disconnect anything when making the oil change which I would find highly unlikely. It is better to be safe than sorry. Check your oil and pay attention to the two different markings on the stick for hot and cold. Most definitely get a diagnostics check for all your sensors. There are a bunch of sensors through out your car that would make your check engine light go on. To find out exactly which are those reporting a problem you will have to go to the shop there is realy no way around it. Expect to pay between 50.00 and 60.00 dollars for your peace of mind unless your car is under warranty. Good luck and I hope you figure this out. It is always stressful when your dealing with the unknown.
if your oil light is on after oil change - check oil before driving - they might have left plug loose or filter loose - see if there is any oil under car --- bring back to where you had oil changed --- do not drive car without oil
you lost me on that question. Could you be a bit more specific???

My vw gof is displying oil press stop moto /service manuel can you help thanks?
This could also be the sending unit that sends the pressure information. If the diaphragm ruptures inside, it will send an oil pressure error. Common problem. My vw gof is displying oil press stop moto /service manuel can you help thanks?
Either the oil pressure switch requires replacement or your oil level is low.If this happens with the engine hot the oil may be-worn out.My vw gof is displying oil press stop moto /service manuel can you help thanks?
It seems your oil pressure is low. You are either low on oil or your oil pump is going bad. You need to not drive it until you see what is wrong. You can seriously damage your engine if either of the above are correct.

Bought friend's 00 Grand Am 67K. Synt oil every 3500 no accidents. What should I do to service it? Shocks?
I've never bought a used car from a friend before. He's a good guy and very meticulous. No major work to the car. He had a new ignition put in when the old failed and a new stereo when the old went out. Other than that no problems? Any concerns or precautionary work I should do?Bought friend's 00 Grand Am 67K. 67k miles i would get a full trans service its req at 60-70k miles.trans filter and 100% flush it be about 100$. Look at the brakes and see if he had a new air filter/spark plugs and wires.shocks maybe if the alignment is off but a good tire place could tell ya.But 60k miles is very good miles.Bought friend's 00 Grand Am 67K. NO, if it stays on then this means there is a problem with the environmental controls. have the light repaired, or if the owner refuses buy it for 500 bucks it could be one of a million things, this is why it is being sold...I am looking to buy a 2000 acura integra is it normal for the service engine light 2 come on when needs oil ch
most newer cars have a '; reminder'; regarding oil changes, but i wouldn't rely on the sellers word , i would take it to an autozone, or a o'reilley's or some other store for a free diagnostic exam, it could be something more serious, remember BUYER BEWARE!

? why would a truck have 15 quarts of oil/serviced by Jiffy/lube?
it almost caught on fire smoked hard/ can it affect the seals. Brake masters did the fix put some dye in it to check they said to come back in week.? why would a truck have 15 quarts of oil/serviced by Jiffy/lube?
these guys are true as to the problems coming from too much oil in an engine. perhaps the lube tech read it wrong or had the wrong vehicle engine pulled up on the computer. they SHOULD have noticed it before you left because anyone knows you always check your oil level after you change it. but i DO take a bit offense to those offering words of help who say that those in the quick-lube business are NON-mechanics. yes, walmart, jiffylube, precision tune, etc, supply the most problems that we see come through our shop. but i myself DO mechanic work, i know what i am doing, and it really pisses me off to no end when others say we arent real mechanics. while the majority may not be, some of us are, so dont group us all together? why would a truck have 15 quarts of oil/serviced by Jiffy/lube?
I think you've caught on! Fast oil change joints are manned with non-mechanics who make too many horrible mistakes. Why did you go to another non-mechanic brake shop? Jiffy Lube should be held accountable for any damages today and in the future to your motor. Are you aware what too much oil in a crankcase can do? - The crankshaft beats the living dog-meat out of the extra oil filling it with air bubbles very similar to an old fashoned milk shake. The oil pump forces air filled oil through the bearings and valve train. It's not unusual to actually seize a motor with too much oil.
Would help to know what kind of truck. Anyway, they probably did not think and the computer told them it was a deisel. I worked for the walmart lube express and a coworker did exactly that. The computer listed the truck as a deisel, so he put the 15 quarts of oil required by a deisel engine. Yes it can affect the seals. That much oil would put a lot of pressure on system while running. I would complain big time to Jiffy Lube and never go back there again. That might be the ';Im a real mechanic and they are not'; part of me talking though
if it is a ford diesel, that one takes 15 qts. but if an engine is over filled, that puts a great load on the front and rear main seals. it can create a major leak. since you did not mention a year, make or model i cannot go into it much more than that.
ford diesel 15 qts, dipstick is incorrectly marked but that is the correct oil quantity
dodge power stroke, 12 qts
chevy duramax 10 qts.
If it's not a diesel an idiot filled it

IF YOU OWN a 2002 - 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer & have the service manual, could you tell me what GRADE oil is recc.
....what GRADE OIL is reccomended eg. 5w-30, 5w-20, 10w-30 etc. Engine is a 2.0L ( no turbo) OZ rally auto. Just want to know what oil the Manafacturers manual reccomends. I suspect it's 5w-30 up %26amp; to -29 to +38 degrees is my guess but i dont know.IF YOU OWN a 2002 - 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer %26amp; have the service manual, could you tell me what GRADE oil is recc.

I got a bmw 325i at 64,000 miles.It has clocked 93000 now.I have done just oil changes.Is any service due ?
You should pay attention to the service indicator. It will tell you when the next oil service or inspection is due.
You didn't say what year your BMW is.
All 3 series BMWs should have a brake fluid flush every 2 years. If your 325i is over 2 years old, take the VIN to a BMW dealer and have them pull up the service history. They can tell you if the car is due for the service.
Cooling system drain and refill depends on model year. Yours may need it done.
Most 3 series BMWs should get new spark plugs and oxygen sensor at 100,000 miles.I got a bmw 325i at 64,000 miles. It has clocked 93000 now.I have done just oil changes. Is any service due ?
Least, I would service the spark plugs.
Bare minimal, I would check out that plastic radiator neck. If it snaps, the car would over heat. This is how most of BMWs go - over heated engine causes cylinder head to warp, head gasket leaks, and runs several thousand dollar repair bills.I got a bmw 325i at 64,000 miles. It has clocked 93000 now.I have done just oil changes. Is any service due ?
I would suggest a timing chain soon. Engines are expensive.
was the timing belt changed at the time you bought it? I would change the belt and water pump, flush the block and radiator,, and change fuel filter, run some fuel cleaner in tank, change the plugs and air cleaner, I have over 280K on all my bmw and I have three of them
/ You might want to have the transmission fluid changed.
The transmissions are not long lasting on BMW's.
Ok if it is an e30 then the timing belt needs changed every 60,000 miles if it is an e36 the look at your radiator, inspection 1 and 2, look at the owners manual. a good investment for these cars is a Bentley maintenance manual.

Oil painting ';REPAIR'; service?
I have an oil painting that was damaged this week. It has been in the family about 60 years. It is not an antique or Masterpiece but a very detailed landscape painting. It was painted on paper (not cloth). Three pieces of paper were ';SCRATCHED '; away from the painting. Torn off if you will. Where do i find someone who could repair this? A college art school? What fees would i expect to pay? Hourly? I live outside of Detroit, Michigan. Thank you.Oil painting ';REPAIR'; service?
I restore oil paintings and depending on the size of your damage is how someone would charge you. Size of the damaged area and you will likely pay a little more because it was on paper and not canvas. Price though depends on size of damage. Try contacting a local college art instructor they may have their class restore it for free for you as a lesson on repairs for their students.Oil painting ';REPAIR'; service?
WELL IT WILL BE A LOT OF MANY FROM YOUR PACKET ...WELL IF YOU CAN AFFORDED JUST CONTACT ME ....... HOW OLD IS THE PICTURE .. AND HOW BIG IS THE DAMAGED AREA?? AND HOW BIG IS THE PICTURE ??/

Is BP engine oil good for my Mercedes benz 190E 2.6? What is the service interval for ths car?
Any good quality oil if fine as long as you change it regularly. How often do you do it? Depends on the type of driving you do, but about every 4,000 miles (6500 km) is good for normal driving. Is BP engine oil good for my Mercedes benz 190E 2.6? What is the service interval for ths car?
For my leak free cars I use only Mobil 1 synthetic, Fram heavy duty filters and change the oil every 4,500 miles (depending on how lazy/broke I am at the moment). Otherwise any cheap oil is fine, just change it at 3,500 miles. One of the main reasons to change the oil is because it gets dirty, so frequency is arguably more important than quality of oil.Is BP engine oil good for my Mercedes benz 190E 2.6? 2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?
I'm kinda tight on money right now, but of course want to keep my car in best shape. I'm aware I need to change it every 5k as stated in the manual to prevent voiding my warranty. I do not plan on switching to Synthetic. Thx in advance 4 ur input!2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?
You are on the right track. That is the most intelligent thing to do.
The diff. between the service dept and the manuf.? The service dept wants to make money. The manuf. wants to protect their product reputation.
Usually following the manufacturer is the prudent thing to do. Which is what you intend to do. Continue with your plan, you should have very little trouble. Keep an accurate record for warranty purposes.2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?
Change oil and filter at 3,000 mile intervals under really severe conditions and 5,000 if the engine鈥檚 being babied.
If you want to wait until 5,000 miles then go for it, just check your oil and make sure everything is cool inside. You will not void your warranty by waiting until 5,000 miles.
I just had the first oil change done on my Yaris. I have 5100 miles on it. The dealship told me when I baught it that it should be done every 5000 miles. It was all in good condition when i brought it in. I say to stick with the manual.
A car's oil and filter should be changed every three thousand miles unless it's running synthetic motor oil. The detergents in regular oil begin to degrade at three thousand miles, and are generally gone by four thousand--so your engine stops receiving most of the sludge protection the detergents provided.
Synthetic oil should be changed every five thousand miles, because its detergents and additives last longer.
Please believe your Toyota service department. They know what they're talking about; the car manufacturer is concerned with nothing but having to pay warranty time on your car, and so tries to stretch the intervals between servicing as long as possible.
If it makes a difference, you should be able to go to a franchise like Jiffy Lube to get your oil changed for less money without voiding your warranty. Talk to your dealership to be sure, though.
There is NO NEED to change the oil on a current generation of Toyota more frequently than every 5,000 miles unless you're doing alot of heavy driving (Towing, lots of weight/passengers, etc.) It will not hurt the vehicle to change it more freqently, but there is no need to. That includes the first oil change. Follow the owner's manual when you're not sure. The service department of your local dealership isn't telling you to do anything that will hurt your vehicle, but they are trying to maximise their revenue by having you come in more frequently.
Hope this helps.
Stick with the manual unless you drive short trips, or in dusty dirty country roads.
Don't you think the DESIGNERS of the car know what is best?
The dealers are in business to SELL SERVICE!! OBVIOUSLY they will try and get you to spend more money than you need to.
They tried to charge me for some brake ';service'; that was not called for at the 15K service I wanted. I told them I was not going to pay for ANYTHING not called for or asked for. Done deal.
Dealer wants money..... Toyota don't want anymore sludged engines.....
Stick with the manual....
Btw, doesn't really matter much about synthetic VS conventional in additive packs.... they are similar..... only real good thing about synthetic is that it holds up to higher heat, longer without oxidizing and thickening up.... which is why they can go longer....
Conventional oils, well they break down quicker due to the base oil... but some good brands can go for a very long time (I have seen used oil analysis on some brands), one I thought was great... guy used the oil life monitor on the vehicle and went over 12,000 miles on one oil change..... and from what the used oil analysis readings said, it did great... low engine wear and additive pack still had life left...
Simply put I'd just go 5,000 miles and change it.... after warranty is out, its really up to you.
do what the manual states, the service department would love to get you in there and make some extra money off of you. usually the manual will also tell you when to change it if you drive interstate or within the city. remember, toyota isn't going to put something in writing that is right - they have lawyers checking out these little manuals to make sure that they aren't held liable if something does go wrong with your car.
Same deal with my Saab. go with the manual at 5000 for sure. every dealership or oil change place is told to recommend it at 3000 miles, but it's certainly not necessary. keep your warranty intact, your wallet full(er), and take her in every 5000.
My husband almost bought a Yaris but we went to the dealer and they wanted $2000 more than what toyota drivers were paying in Florida. My father in law has a golf buddy (who owns southeastern toyota) that gave us the info, so when the sales lady told us the price, we left.....it was bad, they tried to get us to do a lease, etc, we were like, no thanks.....
We bought a Nissan for considerably cheaper and at the same performance as a Yaris, the Sentra needs a oil change around the same time. I always took mine in at 3000 miles, but my husband read the manual and told me that every .....I don't remember, he is working tonight so otherwise I would ask him, but it is very similar. Its not every 3000 that I did in the past with my car. These newer cars don't need the maintenance that I used to have to do when I was a single mom, its not fair :-)
you are ok if you keep doing the oil change at every five thats what the manufucturer recomends so you are very safe following that.
But depending on the milage you cover synthetic oil will prove to be better coz you get double milage interval between services say instead of 5k each service for the normal oil you can do them in 10k intervals with synthetic oil although synthetic oil costs a little bit more.
if it's the FIRST oil change... get it done at 3k or dealer recommendation... after the first oil change, then you can do it when ever you want...oh yea dont go synthetic.... unless it the car came symthetic...

Car service lied about changing transmission oil? ?
I recently went to get my oil change and they recommend that I change my transmission oil too. The Tune-up place show me how the transmission oil should have a red liquid color not brown. However, after a 6 days I checked the transmission oil and it is still brown. I wasn't sure but I went to get my State inspection, they recommend me that I change my transmission oil. Without a doubt, I been trick. I called the Tune-up place but they said it my problem. Please advice me what to do with this situation?Car service lied about changing transmission oil? ?
don't get me wrong. im not defending the service place. especially with a response like that. but listen when one gets a trans service their is two kinds. one is dropping the trans pan, changing the filter and oil in the pan. the other is using a pressure fluid exchanger machine. now the difference is the first way old fluid stays in the tork converter. so old fluid combines with the new fluid. making it look like it never got changed. the second way all fluid in the trans including the tork convert gets flushed and gets new fluid. so it stays red for a good amount of time. but if the repair shop was a reputable, professional, and had any integrity they would have explained that to you. you can try a complaint with the B.B.B. but trust me they are usually not much help. or contact a news person. in my area its called 3 on your side NEWS CHANNEL 3. those people usually help. maybe theirs something like that in your area. look it up so you know exactly what im talking about. businesses need to be held accountable for bad practice. 1 dollar 1000 dollars it don't matter. this is coming from a retired auto pro.Car service lied about changing transmission oil? ?
1 out of 3, either the place is a scam (most car service technitians are), and they did the service wrong, up to, but not eclusive to the wrong kind of transmission fluid. 2, there's something wrong with the transmission, wich is gotta be fixed. Or 3, you need to replace the transmission, wich I doubt if isn't leaking.
go back to the place and demand your money back.if the repair was just done recently then the fluid should still be red color.period! Also you don't want to change fluid in a transmission if the mileage is high, reason being is transmission fluid is very high in detergent.if the new fluid is installed, this can wash away any debris around internal valves and will cause the transmission to fault or damage.ALWAYS TRY TO FOLLOW YOUR SERVICE INTERVALS,THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY IN THE LONG RUN!! I know its expensive but this will save your lots of money down the road.If the shop refuse to reimburse your money, call the better business bureau and file a complaint.
Ugh, that stinks...Tell them your going to call a lawyer and the police and contact the local town office. They will change it after you tell em that..Heck it aint that big of a deal for a shop to change it, Good luck with it.

Mitshubishi -auto transmission oil and filter service?
please advise location of filter for auto transmission ; for Mitshubishi lancer cg .Mitshubishi -auto transmission oil and filter service?
automatic trans have a strainer inside the transmission pan[sump] the transmission does not require a filtration system as effective as the engine does,so it's not as easy to get to. To change the fluid, strainer and gasket, a mechanic removes the pan from the bottom of the transmission, clean everything and replace it all.
SOooo... you can call it a filter, but it really is a strainer in the bottom of the transmission.

K&N Oil Based Air Filter caused ';Service Engine Light'; on?
I have a 2000 Buick Regal LS, after recently changed the air filter to K%26amp;N Oil based filter, two weeks later, the ';Service Engine Light'; came on and stayed on, any ways to correct the problem? I had switched back to regular filter yesterday. The light is sitll on though.K%26amp;N Oil Based Air Filter caused ';Service Engine Light'; on?
I have heard that you can use throttle body cleaner and spray it in the wire but have to be careful as thats wire is thin and you can break it easy and those gm MAF sensors are not cheap. its a lesson all people with GM learns about these oiled filters. but your cel light is the MAF sensor.K%26amp;N Oil Based Air Filter caused ';Service Engine Light'; on?
Check the code first to make sure it is a mass air flow code. If so, try cleaning the MAF and have the code cleared
2 weeks went by between the new air filter and the light turning on. It is entirely possible, that the 2 have nothing to do with each other whatsoever.
The most common fault is over-oiling of the filter. It is likely that the excessive oil has been blown onto the AirFlow Sensor. Reinstating the original is ';useless'; as you need to clean the sensor.
Go with something that do not require oiling. I am using Hurricane steel filter ... very high flow and quite good.
More than likely you will have to get your mass airflow meter replaced, its a lesson lots of people have to learn with K%26amp;N filters. I have never heard of any way to clean them.

Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?
I own an 04 pontiac grand prix gt for 6 mos. now and I kept on using a regular fuel with a lower octane. Until recently i noticed that my car pings and won't start occasionally. My doubt for this problem was because the fuel I use is low grade so last i changed fuel with a higher octane. However, the same problem happened over the weekend which made me thought that my fuel lines/injector and/or engine is dirty or clogged up.
I am having my regular oil change service this week and I wonder if this would solve the problem I am encountering and would a basic oil change service in a way help in cleaning my fuel line/injector and/or engine?
I would greatly appreciate a detailed advice on this one, THANKS!Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?
No, an oil change will not solve the issue that you're describing. You'll need a fuel injection cleaning service. Which you can probably have done at most oil changing service stations or a vehicle service shop. They can also diagnose your vehicle in more detail to determine exactly what the issue is. Your car may not have a clogged fuel line but could be something else, hopefully not worse involving an engine overhaul due to bad valves.
Good luck and hope this helps! Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?
Oil change has nothing to do as does octane as computer is set for 87 and rest is wasted. You need to folow maintenance manual and have injectors cleaned every 6 months for 60.00 Report Abuse
b-rich, if you put higher octane gas in a motor that is designed for 87 octane it will do NOTHING for the motor and can, in some cases, hurt performance.
To the person that asked the question, listen to some of the other guys, you need to take it somewhere to get a diagnosis, it could be NUMEROUS things and it doesn't sound like you're too mechanically inclined(no offense).
Normal oil service won't change anything about your fuel system, although many oil change places will offer a fuel line/injector cleaning service for another fee. I have had it done before and I'm skeptical that it did anything that a bottle of fuel additive type cleaner won't do.
no an oil change doesnt have anything to do with the fuel line
you can buy some gas additive at any auto parts store and even most gas stations, add a bottle of that about once a month or every couple weeks to clean out bad gas, and use better gas for a while at least
change the fuel filter and get the injector service too. that will clean out the screens in the injector nozzles. use a gas treatment once a month to keep water / dirt out of your tank.
I would have your injector system serviced as well and have the Ignition system Inspected for a miss-fire.
Mad Jack gave the only sensible answer. All this guessing and throwing money at it won't do a bit of good.
The ping is probably something else. Did your engine throw any codes?
no.
This will do nothing for your problem. Fuel system service is completely different than an oil change.
Your problem could be any number of items none of which would be related to your lubrication system.
First of all unless this is the supercharged model, it should only require 87 octane regular unleaded fuel.
Without connecting your engine to any diagnostic equipment I can only make wild guesses.
It could be a malfunctioning knock sensor. This sensor listens for detonation (pinging) and will cause the engine management computer to correct the problem.
It could be a malfunctioning EGR valve, usually stuck in the open position.
It could be excessive carbon buildup. Unlikely. Carbon can build up in the cumbustion chamber to the point where it increases the compression ratio. Unusual in a modern engine and would be a symptom of a serious problem
It could be problems with the fuel system such as dirty fuel injectors, dirty fuel filter, malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator, contaminated fuel, etc.
It could be a plugged catalytic converter. A plugged catalytic converter is usually caused when there is a problem with the fuel / air mixture.
It could be a dirty or malfunctioning oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor. These sensors help the engine management computer determine the correct fuel / air mixture and ignition timing.
You have a few choices here. You can throw lots of parts and money at it and hope that you get lucky enough to stumble upon the source of your problem. In the mean time you will get frustrated with your car because you will be spending lots of money in the process and it will continue to run like crap.
You can continue to waste your money on premium fuel
Or your best choice would be to bring it to the Pontiac Dealer Service Department. I know this will cost more than a private mechanic. But a Pontiac mechanic specializes in General Motors products. They would be more likely to get it right the first time, saving you money in the long run.
premium fuel is never a bad idea, that helps reduce knock and usualy has more detergents in it to help stop that carbon build up, your knock sensor listens for knock like the other guy said, if it hears a knock then it will retard the timming a little to try an stop that pinging, if you have better fuel in it, it should have to retard the timming less and may actually advance it and you could increase your gas millage, it would probably take a tank or two for it to realize it completely that it can advance it further than it use to be able to, its just like people used to advance their timming on older cars with the distributor cap, you cant do that anymore its automatically done for you, but using the better fuel will advance the timming

2002 GMC Envoy. Oil pressure, Service Engine Soon Light.?
My Envoy dropped oil pressure and the service engine soon light came on. It was 1 quart low on oil. I filled it, and I can't get the engine light out. I need to know how to do this. 3 times on the gas pedal does not work on this vehicle. Next question, Why would cause this vehicle to dry sump the pump only being 1 quart low? It was just idling at the time this all took place. Now that it is full, at 4000 rpm it will still dry sump. The oil pressure falls and it tells me, low oil pressure shut it off. Any help with this will be great. Thanks, Turf.2002 GMC Envoy. Oil pressure, Service Engine Soon Light.?
The service engine light comes on for emissions reasons mostly or major engine or trans failure (trans slipping overheat things like this) If you would take to auto zone they will scan for free for you just tell them the light just turned on.
As far as oil pressure drooping or dry sumping sounds like oil returns in top of engine in valley between head and block not draining back quick enough. You can use engine flush it will help with this but may have more severe concern. As the other person had suggested there may also be crack in oil pick up or bad oil pump2002 GMC Envoy. Oil pressure, Service Engine Soon Light.?
You may have to reset the computer, to get the oil light off. Or, you may also have a bad sensor or a sending unit as well. As to the oil pump dry sumping, you may need a new sump pump. Or the tube that runs from the pump is damaged in some way, or it is partly blocked, usually by dirty oil. Even though there is a screen in the sump, the dirt still does get by, anyway.

Is fully synthetic oil okay for mercedes 313 sprinter 2002 service?
Synthetic oil = engine oil. Just completely pure. They are not equivalent or some Franken-oil.
Natural (or conventional) oils are made / purified from petroleum. So lots of impurities gets by. And it is these impurities that breaks down and causes problem.
Synthetic oil is MADE from shorter chain molecules and so there's NO impurities that can break down later. But it IS motor oil.
So always feel secure in using Synthetic.
Good Luck..
P.S. The one exception is that because sythetics are more expensive, they can afford to add MORE additives / friction modifier. This becomes a problem in wet clutch on motorcycles (only).
P.P.S. Actually because they are MADE - technically they are Franken-oil (made oil). Just not scary. :-)hidden myspace

Leaking oil below flywheel of outboard motor is it a big repair at service agent?
Wrong Category!!!!!!!! lol
Is it true that a Boxster can only be serviced (e.g., change oil, etc.) by a Porsche service center?
and the maintenance and repair costs expensive (for example, oil change fees around $120.00; routine service (e.g., every 7500 miles) or repair fees @ minimum $1000.00)?Is it true that a Boxster can only be serviced (e.g., change oil, etc.) by a Porsche service center?
It can be serviced by anyone although you may have warranty problems and (possibly) reduce the residual value by not having a full 'main dealer' service history. There are also little problems like re-setting service-due lights which main dealers claim only they can do but in my experience the info to do this can be found online.
In the UK it was made illegal to use the 'main dealer only' service a condition of a warranty but this may vary elsewhere.

No it is not true but an oil change will cost you that much since the filter alone is like 20 to 30 bucks plus the syntec oil. Also forget about replacing the spark plugs on this, the motor has to come down for that.

When doing an oil change for AcuraTL/06, does the service light reset automatic, or need a spec. tool 2 reset?
I have an 2006, Acura TL and I would like to know when the reminder indicator comes on when the computer tells you that an oil change and tire rotation is needed, does the computer reminder resets itself after you service (after changing the oil and rotate the tires) the car or do you need a special tool to reset the device that Acura dealers or special car shops carry? When doing an oil change for AcuraTL/06, does the service light reset automatic, or need a spec. tool 2 reset?
To reset it do the following
-With the keys out of the ignition, press and hold both the select and reset buttons (to the left of your speedometer and RPM's gauge)
-Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the Position II (the state at which everything is functioning, but the engine is not on)
-Wait until the maint. light goes out, and continue holding the Select and reset
-When light goes out, turn the car on, and release the buttons, your light should now be reset. When doing an oil change for AcuraTL/06, does the service light reset automatic, or need a spec. tool 2 reset?
No you dont need a specal tool
Open the fuse panel and look in this panel ( it is in the engine)
There is a button that you push and it will tell you how to reset it
Most of the time you just push in the button and hold it for 10 seconds. Most of the time it will reset.
Listen to wildeje the other guy would be right if it were a saturn. Good luck.

Service Interval/oil change?
I am looking to buy a car for my mother.
I have found a 1992 corolla automatic at a reputable toyota dealer.
The car has only done 67000km.
My question is as follows:
The cars last service was at 60 000km in 2002 (I **** you not).
I am not sure if the oil has been changed since then, as it has only done 7000km since then.
Could this have caused damage?Service Interval/oil change?
Have the dealer do an oil/filter change, good idea to replace brake fluid and have a tranny flush, then you'll be good to go. Obviously the car has been parked and if they are going to do a certification to make it road ready then they would have a look at the brakes as the rotors may be rusty. Should be a great car for your mom.Service Interval/oil change?
Yes'; Valve Guide seals, not to mention sludge in oil pan, a car was made to drive, as to oil change %26amp; oil filter 3000 miles%26lt;If you are driving short hops, ever 2 months/to answer your question/yes the 4 yrs it has been parked, would have my focus.
I would need to drive this car 100 miles to Evaluate .
although its not a good practice to stretch out the oil changes it probably didnt do any harm ,esp if a good quality oil was used.are there any noises or performance concerns,if not i think you will be fine.

Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?
My plan is to offer a service where I will be going to people's homes to change their oil at a discounted price. I will provide the oil and disposal and the whole idea is that it will be convenient for ppl and cheaper! They get to choose the type of oil and oil change they get. I'll also be offering other services such as lubrication, tire gauge check, air, vaccuum, repairs (broken side view mirror, etc) BUT i'll mainly be advertising the oil change.
soo..i have some questions and I would appreciate any help, thank you! These are my questions:
1) What's a good tagline? I'm so bad at this, but I'm thinking ';have your oil changed at the convenience of your own home';..id like something that's more catchy though
2) how can i establish credibility and trustworthiness? i don't have a certificate, but i've been working with my/family's/friends' cars for years.
3) What title would sound best (most official, most professional)? In other words, what can I call myself? Professional Oil Changer? (I also do other things, so idk about that...) I need a good title, pls help!
4) How much should I charge for my services?
any other advice? thank you so very much!!Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?
First: Research what the professional oil change services charge in your area. Set up your charge to be somewhat less. You can do that because you don't have a heavy overhead in building and rack rental. You probably will have to buy a ramp to drive their car up on to change the oil, cost of containers and cost of oil disposal. Think about the other costs and set your price schedule accordingly.
Secondly: ';tagline';? I think you mean ';business slogan'; for advertising purposes. First I'd get a business name. ';John's Home Auto Service';, then figure out the slogan... ';Save Money, Let John Do It'; comes to mind.
Thirdly: Print up some flyers announcing your new service. Stress it's cheaper and more convenient for you to come to them than they to go to the oil change place and include your lowest price (and make sure you indicate that some changes are more expensive... include something like: ';From 99-cents up'; or the Price and the word ';up'; by it. Pass out the flyers everywhere you can, cars in parking lots at Wal-Mart, on outside advertising boards, Craigs List in your local area (that's free)...
There's more work involved than just going out to change someone's oil and charging them for it... it's called ';the wonderful world of being in business for yourself';.
Good Luck! Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?
The EPA will be watching you like a hawk and you will need a lic to haul the oil.Not easy to get that kind of a license.Good luck

How do i reset service light after i change oil in the bmw?
You need a code reader that allows reseting the service engine light. How do i reset service light after i change oil in the bmw?
Depends on what year but most need a scanner to reset them. You may have to go to a dealer or a repair shop that has the scan tool to do it .Not some thing you can do by yourself without buying a 300 buck toolHow do i reset service light after i change oil in the bmw?
it should reset its self after so many cycles, (starts, as in running)..
Take a short piece of wire and create a jumper to go between pins 7 and 10 if your car is equipped with the 20 pin connection and you have an E30 series bmw. Once the connection is made turn the key to the on/run position (do NOT turn it to the start position) and wait for the inspection and oil service lights to go out. (the red and the yellow) and immediately turn the key to the off position, remove the jumper, replace the 20 pin cover and start the car normally.
yeah Joe K has the correct advice, you can google that also and someone has a web site showing how he made the tool, you dont need to buy one,, but it is a dang nuicance,,,, my sons car never would reset correctly,
good luck
reset your oil light yourself and save what you need is aR5 tool from BAVARIAN AUTOSPORT www.bavauto.com sells for $69.95
hold down the reset button (milage reset button) and start the engine, continue to hold the button for about 5-10 secs after the engine starts and it should go away
If you can't figure it out and can't afford to take it back to the dealer, you shouldn't be driving a beamer. European cars are extremely high maintenance. If you're not mechanicaly inclined and aren't wealthy enough to finance a mechanics Caribeen cruise, don't buy a Eruo car.
there is a electrical connection under the bonnet which needs to be unplgged and then you need to connect a special too to it and then there is a sequence of turning ignition on and off whhile having the door open, its a load of crap really. I had 3 different BMW 3 series cars and all of them had the sevice lights comiing on for as long as i owned them without any problems. I wouldnt worry about it if i were you.hidden myspace

My car is leaking oil from below the engin, would this be repaired if i gave the car a full service ?
It won't be repaired by a service but it would make sense to get it done at the same time.My car is leaking oil from below the engin, would this be repaired if i gave the car a full service ?
a engin? My car is leaking oil from below the engin, would this be repaired if i gave the car a full service ?
It depends where the oil is leaking from.
If the oil is leaking from the oil filter or the oil drain plug, a full service should fix it. If it is leaking from anywhere else, you will need to get a garage to find the source of the leak and repair that specific problem.
How bad is it leaking? Just a little seep, or is it actually dripping? Can you see where it's coming from?
In my experience, the most common place for oil to leak from is the seal around the oil pan. In this case, you can generally keep driving it until the leak gets too bad to ignore. (On my current car, the oil pan is greasy, but it never actually reaches the ground)
Regardless, no, ';a full service'; usually just means changing the oil and filters and whatnot, it doesn't actually involve any repairs...and whatever is leaking, this is a repair. It could be simple and relatively cheap (probably is...either the oil pan seal, threads on the plug, oil filter, something like that), or it could be involved and more expensive (like it's coming from the timing cover or something that would be a ***** to get off).
You should be able to figure out where it's coming from, if you can get under it. You may be able to identify what part is leaking yourself.
It could very well be leaking from an old or damaged oil filter, which is an easy and inexpensive fix.
Hi,the valve seal might have gone.Check out this site http://whatprice.co.uk/car/maintainance/鈥?/a>
No !! They will ( or should if their any good) advise you of the leak ! but they won't repair it in a general service !?!?
you could take it to a garage and point the leak out to them! and get a quote for them to repair it!!
full service....um I think of that as oil and fluid changes and maybe air filter and tune up. None of this will fix your car.
Taking your car into a mechanic to get diagnosed, and repaired would work.
No. A service as you call it , will not deal with an engine oil leak. Seperate problem , and has to be determined where the leak is from before it can be repaired seperately.
Full service??? What kind of full service? How do you know it's coming from the engine?
It could something as simple as a bad oil pan gasket, or a bad oil filter. In some cars the oil comes from a leak in some other place and it leaks all the way down and it just looks like that's where it comes from.
A clean engine will make it easier to establish where the leak is. Engines can be cleaned (washed) this should not only be done from the top but also from the bottom (chassis wash).
If you dont know the answer to your question it would be unwise for you to carry out your own service. Chances are the oil is coming from the sump plug or oil filter. if its not from one of these things then it could prove more costly and will not be picked up on a standard service. Dont mess around take it to a reputable garage and get them to have a look. good luck.
Could be a leaking sump drainer. Then again it could be oil leaking from under a gasket. Get professional opinion.
NO,BUT YOU COULD GET THE GARAGE TO CHECK WHERE ITS COMING FROM, IF FROM THE SUMP IT MIGHT JUST NEED A NEW GASKET,COULD EVEN BE THE OIL FILTER CASING,THIS WOULD BE CHANGED ANYWAY,BUT SOMETIMES ITS THE ROCKER COVER AT THE TOP OF ENGINE,AGAIN ANOTHER GASKET,ANYWHERE ELSE,THEN IT WILL BE EXPENSIVE
Could be the main seal. If it is just a few drops/day, leave it alone assuming it isn't too messy. Check the oil filter and the nut on the bottom of the drain pan. Maybe they just arnt tight.
What do you mean ';full service'; If you mean ';tune up'; the answer is No.... This is a separate issue. There are tons of places an oil would leak from. Most common places would be oil pan gasket or valve cover gasket. To check where it's leaking from open the hood and look around the engine and see if the oil is leaking from the top of the engine. If it looks dry on top then most likely it would be the oil pan gasket, but again there are other things that would leak too like oil pressure sensor etc.(that could be a very strong leak).... Good Luck...
very unlikley that a service would fix your oil leak unless it is leaking from a split oil filter seal or the sump bung has came loose. could be any number of possibilities for oil leaking. :-sump gasket, rock cover gasket, oil feed pipes, oil pressure switch and so on. best to get it checked at a garage. or get underside of engine and vehicle power washed so that you can see were oil is leaking from.

Anybody know how to reset the the service light on a 07 Toyota Tacoma, after you change the oil?
Geoffry is correct. The owner's manual states it,
';The system must be reset after the
engine oil replacement. Reset the system
by the following procedure:
1. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position
with the odometer reading shown.
(For details, see “Odometer and two
trip meters” on page 154 in this Section.)
2. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position
while holding down the trip meter
reset knob.
Hold down the knob for at least 5
seconds. The odometer indicates “000000”
and the light goes off.
If the system fails to reset, the light will
continue flashing.';
Hope this helps!
God Bless!Anybody know how to reset the the service light on a 07 Toyota Tacoma, after you change the oil?
Toyota typically puts the instructions for resetting the MAINT REQD service light in the Owner's Manual, right next to the description of the meaning of that light...Anybody know how to reset the the service light on a 07 Toyota Tacoma, after you change the oil?
Dealer or check the manual, the instructions should be in there
press and hold the needle for re-setting the tachometer (in the dash-cluster gage) then as your holding that down, take your key turn it to the accessory setting (turn the power on but not the engine) turn off.. then turn it back on.. you should see several dashes that will blink and turn off.
BTW.. I sold Toyota for several years.. now that I am with another brand I really miss them and appreciate them more beacause they are the most reliable cars out there
may I please have 10 points??? :)

Hold down the knob for at least 5

If the system fails to reset, the light will

Oil Cap and Service light?
Yesterday I put in oil but forgot to put the cap back on. Drove around for a while and then the service engine light came on. I've done this before so I knew that I forgot to replace the cap. I put it back on, but the service light is still on. Will that go off on it's own or will I need to take it in to a service shop to have them do it?Oil Cap and Service light?
check your oil level ,make sure it is at the proper level. if the level is okay and the engine light is on take it somewhere that can pull codes to tell you what is wrong and fiw the problem.Oil Cap and Service light?
Dear Oil Cap-
More than likely what has happened is your computer has stored what is called a trouble code. This code indicates there could be or was a malfunction within the engines emission control system.
The newer the car, the more sensitive it will be to these changes.
Here is what probably happened.
Inside your engine there is a certain amount of vacuum that is developed to draw off gasses created from the combustion of the air/fuel mixture. There are also gasses created from the hot engine oil. These gasses are then drawn off and routed through the intake system and burned via the combustion cycle in your engine.
When the oil cap was missing, this vacuum was not present. You were allowing air from outside to enter the cylinder block, and not properly vent these gases to the intake system.
The emission system detected this and stored a trouble code on your car's computer.
You may have to go to the shop to have the trouble code cleared, so the service light will go out.
Now here is the other possibility.
I own 2 Scions, (Xb and Tc). They are equipped with a milage sensor that tells you when you are due for your oil changes. This sensor is tripped every 3000 to 5000 miles to remind you to get your oil changed. There is a very simple reset procedure that is printed in the manuals.
If this has happened, then its just by coincidence that the light stayed on after you replaced the cap. To be on the safe side, take your car to a shop and have it checked.
But make sure by reading your owners manual to see if your vehicle is equipped with such a device.
I wish you well.
Advanced Auto will check and turn off your Service Lights for free.
I would recomend taking it there
leaving cap off oil shouldent cause service lite to come on..
OMG!! Check your oil level. IF the cap isn't on, it will fly out of the motor as you rev it up. You are most likely dangerously low on oil!!!!

Does anyone know a business that offers oil painting stretching service in los angeles area? Normal cost too.?
Most framing stores will stretch your canvasses. Michaels has a frame dept. Lots of companies have machines that will do it very quickly, like Harvest Productions in LA. I cant give you a price as it really is arbitrary and many art galleries over charge. Some will only do it if you buy the frame too.
but it is so easy you could do it your self and it is very inexpensive.
the stretcher bars can be bought from any art store or Dick Blick art supply on line and they hammer together like tinker toys. You square them by measuring diagoally from corner to corner and the number should be the same. If not lightly tap the corners and adjust if necessary. The thinner stretcher bars should be fine and will fit nicely in a frame.
You use a regular staple gun (not electric) put the painting face down, and the frame (raised grove side down) over it, making sure that all 4 sides have a bit of the artwork showing. Put a staple in the center of one side of the back of the strecther bar, and pull the oppisite side tight with your fingers wraping around the bar, and and put another staple in the middle. Now do the middles of the shorter sides. turn over and see if have it centered. If not start over ( there are only 4 staples so its easy to adjust)
generaly what you do to one side you do to the opposite side.
So staple four staples about a fingers width apart from the middle staple and then pulling the oppisite side as tight as you can staple the far side down.( you can buy stretcher pliars, but on small stuff your hands should be ok)
there will be a slight crease. Now do the other two shorter sides the same way. Keep going around the canvass.1-2-3-4
When you come to the corners, tuck in like hospital corners making a bed, and staple. Sometimes I do my corners early after the middle 8 stapels in each section are in.
The creases will go away as you keep turning your canvass and stapeling.
To make it even tighter, lightly spray the back of the canvass with a water mist.hidden myspace

I asked for the cheapest oil change.many of you gys said walmart. do all walmarts offer that service?
cuz the walmart on crenshaw mall in los angeles. dont think they offer it. can anybody tell me what walmarts i can go to that does offer the oil change?I asked for the cheapest oil change.many of you gys said walmart. do all walmarts offer that service?
Cheaper is not always better. you need to find a reputable shop that can do the service work not just an oil change. remember your life depends on that car in more ways than one. A good shop will check your car completely from tires to worn steering parts and the like.I asked for the cheapest oil change.many of you gys said walmart. do all walmarts offer that service?
cant you travell too any wallmart, that has a servicce center most and all of wallmarts do oil changes and any oil change isent cheap these days if you cant do it yourself etc, you are goona pay them or some other guy, these places are out to make money and, they do on oil changess there isent nothing cheap anymore when you take itt too any garage, including wallmart sorrie thi isent what you want to here dude but thats life part with the cash no garage is cheap anymore on anything, thats life i know i run a sevice center in, ohio and i make a small fortune on oil lube jobs etc hey good mechanics parts labor oil gas and taxes arent cheap or inspections threw the states anymore there nickel, diming us, okay so we asorb inspections threw hidden costs like oil jobs etc
The cheapest oil change is the one you can do yourself. Takes ten minutes and about 11 bucks .
Dude, don't get your oil changed at Wal-Mart.
C'mon.
Supercenters only, But I wouldnt advice Walmart, Go to www.walmartsucks.org and read some post there, thye mess up ALOT of vehicles..PS: I used to work at a Walmart and I know this first hand, the mechanics bragged about taking cars out for a spin!!!!
At supercenters...... they don't have as bad as a rep as jiffy lube (jiffy boob) does.... Though if not made sure of, they may throw in bulk re-refined engine oil (not bad, its actually good but you don't know what grade it is) and throw on a crappy fram oil filter....
most do and do not worry about oil quality i had a 1994 geo prism with over 300,000 miles on the engine and never burned a drop i used walmart oil from day one had to get rid of it the transmission went out on it.

What are all the fluids oil change services top-off when you get you car oil change?
well all depends on where you go and what you pay for. I own and operate 3 Pennzoil ten minutes and we check : power steering, brake fluid (although we do not add to the brake system we just check it and alert customer of level), anti-freeze/coolant, washer fluid, tranny fluid, rear differential, front differential, transfer case (if applicable), clutch fluid (if stick shift and hydraulic clutch). As far as the oil 5w30 is the recommended oil for that car. Brand is not important. I have all the major brands and they all meet the GF-4 specs. I hear stories all the time from customers that one is better than the other but in reality it is just how often you change it. I do not carry any non spec or recycled oils. I live in Michigan and about 2 hours south of me in Detroit they are using recycled oils and saying they are putting in Pennzoil and what not. Our distributor is looking into it and is thinking about getting legal help as this hurts our business although all Pennzoil Ten Minute Oil Changes are independently owned and operated it makes us all look bad. What are all the fluids oil change services top-off when you get you car oil change?
washer fluid, transmission oil if accessible, grease fittings(AKA zerk fittings) to lube your suspension, if there are any... coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid. (this may vary by different service departments).
There are two things about oil (weight and brand/type):
As for the oil weight to use, it all depends on your the wear your engine has presently and what climate you live in. I used run 20w50 here in Southern California but the synthetic oil I'm using now only comes in 10w30. In colder climates, you'll want something thinner... 10w30 or so.
As for oil brand/type, personally I prefer full synthetic oil (Mobil 1, valvoline, etc) as this drastically increases the longevity of the engine as decreases the damage caused by friction. I know it is expensive, but it is well worth it (in my opinion)... even if you do not have an expensive hot-rod.
Your next thing to think about it are oil filters... The best oil filters are Bosch, Mobil 1 and K%26amp;N (not any order). They cost a bit more, but are worth it for the amount of contaminants they filter. The worst are usually the store brands, FRAM and Penzoil.

Radiator fluid (anti-freeze)
Windshield cleaner fluid
Brake Fluid
Power Steering Fluid
some of them even check the air in the tires, too!
oil, washer fluid, brake fluid, differental, power steering fluid, anti freeze, transmission fluid
Depends on where you go, some shops check more than others... the common fluids checked are:
Oil (obviously)
windshield washer fluid
brake fluid
antifreeze (radiator fluid)
transmission fluid
power steering fluid
clutch master cylinder fluid (on manual transmissions)
and rear end lube on trucks (although not common without a rear end service being purchased)

Service Engine Soon....I have this Service Engine Soon on and still its ON after i change my oil....Whats wrong with it?
I'm assuming it was on prior to the oil change. In almost all new cars, once you actually service the engine, the computer will need to be ';reset';. This simply means that you have to clear the code in the computer for the engine maintenance. This can be done by yourself, I don't know the exact procedure for mitsubishi's but the manual is bound to have it. If this is the first time it has happened, I would get it checked out after having tried to clear it yourself, bring it to the corner garage and have them plug it into the computer. This shouldn't cost more than 90$, and sometimes the dealership might do it for insanely cheap. I know that Autozone does it for free. They should give you a code that will tell you if there is something wrong with the car.I have this Service Engine Soon on and still its ON after i change my oil....Whats wrong with it?
What kind of car? could just need reset or could be an indication of other problems with the cars emision system
you have to re-set the computer after its serviced.
If it is a brand new car. If so, it will take some time to turn it off after you drive. It happens to me once when I had a 2003 Honda Pilot. I hope this helps.
take it to autozone and they will read your check engine light for free.(same as service engine) and tell you what your problem is.It takes a code reader to analyze your problem
Check engine lights can be various things, most manufacturers have them programmed in the cars computers to pop one at certain mileage intervals to suggest taking them to your dealership for service. They typically go away after a certain number of key cycles (turning the car on and off) Otherwise, you could always disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and hook it back up and see if the lights are still on. If they are, take it to a local auto parts store and ask them to check your codes, they do it for free.
Service engine light come on usually means you have to service the engine due to warranty (Mileage) . But afterwards did you disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. try it! After unhooking the battery on the neg side and then reconnecting, drive it for five miles, getting up 35 mph and just driving normal for you. This allows the computor to reset everything and learn your foot on both the brake and gas pedal as well as your steering. Does the light come back on. If so, then get a bypass key and stick it in ADAL connector and read the code and find out what is wrong.

On my '96 Chev Blazer, how do I reset '; service engine soon'; light, I just changed oil on it?
Run your truck past your local auto parts place and have them put a code reader on it. It's free. They can also clear the codes for you. This will let you know if you have an ongoing problem or just a take to dealer issue.
If you do the battery thing make sure and take off the negative first and put the positive on last.On my '96 Chev Blazer, how do I reset '; service engine soon'; light, I just changed oil on it?
well i'm from minnesota i just ingnore itOn my '96 Chev Blazer, how do I reset '; service engine soon'; light, I just changed oil on it?
if the light came on after you changed the oil, you did something wrong. Other than that it came on for a reason, you need a code reader to find out what the code is than diagnose the problem from there. Clearing it will not resolve the issue. On 96 and newer vehicles, the systems are called OBD 2. The service engine lights come on when there is an emissions related issue.
Service engine soon light has nothing to do with sevicing your vehicle in any manner.....its a system light that was designed at a certain mileage to come on and be taken to your dealer.....and they will most likely be the one to turn it out unless someone else knows the trick to tell you how !!!Doesnt indicate you have a problem or needs serviced !!!
disconnecting the battery will clear the codes from the computer. but you should have the computer read to see what codes are in it before you do this. auto zone has code readers
turn your key on and press your gas pedal 3 times within 10 seconds.

What oil to buy for a service?
Forgive me for sounding thick, but the last time I did a service on a car you could just use Castrol or Duckhams oils and all would be fine.
Now with newer technology all this has changed.
I am going to do a service on my Renault Megane 1.4 16 valve RT. It states in the owners handbook that 15/40 or 15/50 is reccomended, but I am unable to find a suitable oil at my local outlet. I saw one there that was 10/40 semi-synthetic and conforms to ACEA A3 (that is the one thats recommended). would this be a decent oil for my car please
thanks

ask at the renault dealers these days if you pyt the wrong oil in cars it knackers them up.What oil to buy for a service?
Hi ray
The best thing to do is to pop into someone like ATS / Kwik fit centre for around 拢25 they will do just a standard oil and filter for you.
However, if you like to get your hand dirty, like me, then you can pop into Halfords look into the oil guide this will tell you what to use!, noting that Halfords own brand oil is Duckhams as we would know it...
The best thing i have found over the years.. if you have a modern car (few years old or less) fully or semi synthetic oil is best, older car 5- 10, best check with the book, as some use mineral (cheapest) other semi oils. but if yours is a little old, use castrol magnatec, is reasonably cheap, easy to find and a reliable oil, but if you have a few quid, then try fully synthetic oil, castrol edge, the best but at around 拢40-50 for 4 litres. look on eBay its a little cheaper.
hope this helps...
Take a look at Millers Oils web site, brilliant company with superb customer service, they do free analysis of used oil for customers. Cheers, Gizz.
