check with an autozone or kragen or whatever is in your neighborhood. They may have a thing you can plug in to do it, but diy usually involves a secret handshake of turning your ignition key to certain positions in a certain sequence. How do you reset the oil service lights yourself?
What year is your car? The newer ones you use the trip button. The older ones you need a reset tool or try jumping some pins? So need the year please.
i would personally recommend you find out if the vehicle is 0bd2

compatible , if most likely ,is . take it down to your local auto zone trade your drivers license for an 0bd2 scanner an re set it scanner is easy to use and idiot proof. or just ask one of the workers there to help or assist you .
For BMW there's a special tool that ';reset'; the oil reminder. You get it at the BMW dealer.
on some BMW you can ground out pin 7 in the diagnostic connector for 3 seconds and it will reset.
You might try to take the battery cable off for a while or ask a service writer at the beemer shop how to turn it off but they will probably tell you that you need to bring it in so they can charge you an arm and a leg.
