2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?

I'm kinda tight on money right now, but of course want to keep my car in best shape. I'm aware I need to change it every 5k as stated in the manual to prevent voiding my warranty. I do not plan on switching to Synthetic. Thx in advance 4 ur input!2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?
You are on the right track. That is the most intelligent thing to do.

The diff. between the service dept and the manuf.? The service dept wants to make money. The manuf. wants to protect their product reputation.

Usually following the manufacturer is the prudent thing to do. Which is what you intend to do. Continue with your plan, you should have very little trouble. Keep an accurate record for warranty purposes.2007 Yaris oil change: Toyota service dept. says every 3k, Toyota manual says 5k (??)?
Change oil and filter at 3,000 mile intervals under really severe conditions and 5,000 if the engine鈥檚 being babied.
If you want to wait until 5,000 miles then go for it, just check your oil and make sure everything is cool inside. You will not void your warranty by waiting until 5,000 miles.
I just had the first oil change done on my Yaris. I have 5100 miles on it. The dealship told me when I baught it that it should be done every 5000 miles. It was all in good condition when i brought it in. I say to stick with the manual.
A car's oil and filter should be changed every three thousand miles unless it's running synthetic motor oil. The detergents in regular oil begin to degrade at three thousand miles, and are generally gone by four thousand--so your engine stops receiving most of the sludge protection the detergents provided.

Synthetic oil should be changed every five thousand miles, because its detergents and additives last longer.

Please believe your Toyota service department. They know what they're talking about; the car manufacturer is concerned with nothing but having to pay warranty time on your car, and so tries to stretch the intervals between servicing as long as possible.

If it makes a difference, you should be able to go to a franchise like Jiffy Lube to get your oil changed for less money without voiding your warranty. Talk to your dealership to be sure, though.
There is NO NEED to change the oil on a current generation of Toyota more frequently than every 5,000 miles unless you're doing alot of heavy driving (Towing, lots of weight/passengers, etc.) It will not hurt the vehicle to change it more freqently, but there is no need to. That includes the first oil change. Follow the owner's manual when you're not sure. The service department of your local dealership isn't telling you to do anything that will hurt your vehicle, but they are trying to maximise their revenue by having you come in more frequently.

Hope this helps.
Stick with the manual unless you drive short trips, or in dusty dirty country roads.

Don't you think the DESIGNERS of the car know what is best?

The dealers are in business to SELL SERVICE!! OBVIOUSLY they will try and get you to spend more money than you need to.

They tried to charge me for some brake ';service'; that was not called for at the 15K service I wanted. I told them I was not going to pay for ANYTHING not called for or asked for. Done deal.
Dealer wants money..... Toyota don't want anymore sludged engines.....

Stick with the manual....

Btw, doesn't really matter much about synthetic VS conventional in additive packs.... they are similar..... only real good thing about synthetic is that it holds up to higher heat, longer without oxidizing and thickening up.... which is why they can go longer....

Conventional oils, well they break down quicker due to the base oil... but some good brands can go for a very long time (I have seen used oil analysis on some brands), one I thought was great... guy used the oil life monitor on the vehicle and went over 12,000 miles on one oil change..... and from what the used oil analysis readings said, it did great... low engine wear and additive pack still had life left...

Simply put I'd just go 5,000 miles and change it.... after warranty is out, its really up to you.
do what the manual states, the service department would love to get you in there and make some extra money off of you. usually the manual will also tell you when to change it if you drive interstate or within the city. remember, toyota isn't going to put something in writing that is right - they have lawyers checking out these little manuals to make sure that they aren't held liable if something does go wrong with your car.
Same deal with my Saab. go with the manual at 5000 for sure. every dealership or oil change place is told to recommend it at 3000 miles, but it's certainly not necessary. keep your warranty intact, your wallet full(er), and take her in every 5000.
My husband almost bought a Yaris but we went to the dealer and they wanted $2000 more than what toyota drivers were paying in Florida. My father in law has a golf buddy (who owns southeastern toyota) that gave us the info, so when the sales lady told us the price, we left.....it was bad, they tried to get us to do a lease, etc, we were like, no thanks.....

We bought a Nissan for considerably cheaper and at the same performance as a Yaris, the Sentra needs a oil change around the same time. I always took mine in at 3000 miles, but my husband read the manual and told me that every .....I don't remember, he is working tonight so otherwise I would ask him, but it is very similar. Its not every 3000 that I did in the past with my car. These newer cars don't need the maintenance that I used to have to do when I was a single mom, its not fair :-)
you are ok if you keep doing the oil change at every five thats what the manufucturer recomends so you are very safe following that.

But depending on the milage you cover synthetic oil will prove to be better coz you get double milage interval between services say instead of 5k each service for the normal oil you can do them in 10k intervals with synthetic oil although synthetic oil costs a little bit more.
if it's the FIRST oil change... get it done at 3k or dealer recommendation... after the first oil change, then you can do it when ever you want...oh yea dont go synthetic.... unless it the car came symthetic...
