What are the steps in servicing an oil boiler?

It's a 20 years old ';Grant'; boiler. What are the steps in servicing an oil boiler?
Call in a Plumber it is Illegal for you to touch it.What are the steps in servicing an oil boiler?
Being an oil burner mechanic myself, i suggest you call a pro. Too complicated for the average Joe.
call in a gas safe engineer if you are in the UK

you do not want to blow up your house as it is not a diy job
The others are right, there are too many things to consider when carrying out an oil service.

You need to have the proper equipment for testing and the appropriate fittings to replace during the service.

You would need such things as a gas flue analyser,an oil pressure gauge,a smoke pump.

Parts that would need replaced would be the burner nozzle, the flexi oil line and the filters.

Use an OFTEC registered engineer.

If at 41k miles, all i've gotten is oil changes, what service should I get done?

i drive a 2001 mazda protegeIf at 41k miles, all i've gotten is oil changes, what service should I get done?
you should definetley get a tune up and brake pads. It might almost be time to get a timing belt too, if it has one.If at 41k miles, all i've gotten is oil changes, what service should I get done?
All fluids changed. Maybe a tune up.
None if none is needed
all fluids...antifreeze... transmission fluid and filter ...air cleaner ...tires checked and rotated...still to early for tune up
I would get the wheels aligned the brakes checked your transmission flooded and just an all around checkup it will cost you a little bit but its better than waiting for something really bad to happen.
Usually your owners manual will list all of your service intervals and what is recommended by the manufacturer.
Check your owner's manual. There should be scheduled service issues there that you can look at. Otherwise, I would say check your brake pads, hoses and belts for excess wear. You also should consider your transmission fluid, or gear oil if you have a manual transmission. You also should check with Mazda about your timing belt. It will probably need to be changed at 60,000 miles, but ask them or check your manual. It's not that expensive to change, but if you don't get it done when you need to, it could be disastrous for your engine. It's smart to stay on top of your maintenance. It will save you money on expensive repairs and you will get better gas mileage too. I have a Nissan Xterra with 128000 miles on it, and I have no problems with it.
none---most of it is a scam---maybe rotate your tires---but you can do that on your own
Not a whole lot is needed @ 41K....

You should change you air and fuel filter - both of those should be done around 15 to 20K. Otherwise inspect your belts and hoses, coolant level, trans fluid color and level (assuming automatic)...you should be good to go!

95 chevy blazer service engine soon light is on times blinks on off I changed oil any idea what else to do?

You need to take it in a have someone read the codes with a scanner. The computer in your car has seen something operating out of its normal range. Its also cheaper to fix when this happens as ignoring it could lead to other problems.,,,,,,,,,UJN95 chevy blazer service engine soon light is on times blinks on off I changed oil any idea what else to do?
Just a hunch -- you might want someone to check your mass airflow sensor -- sometimes that can cause the check engine light to flash.

How much engine oil is required for ford ikon flair during regular general service?

my answer is try to visit on this site http://www.autozone.com/ it's helpHow much engine oil is required for ford ikon flair during regular general service?
most al cars hold four to five quarts of oil so always buy one extra doesnt hurt a thing im guessing five but you always add a few and check then crank and check again once you do it a couple times you got it but buy five at least add four check crank fil if one needs more and you can always ask the parts store or look in owners manual

Why do oil changing services charge it's customer for getting rid of there old oil.?

Don't they receive money from recyclable companies colecting the used oil.Why do oil changing services charge it's customer for getting rid of there old oil.?
In the olden days it was allowed to just pour the old oil down the drain, but environmental laws prohibit that today.

All sorts of recycling is needed for all sorts of old auto parts, which may or may not pay the mechanics places a decent income. Meanwhile, this is an extra hassle for the repair place to store the chemicals until they can be transported to the recycling place. It is only reasonable that this hassle cost be included as part of the pricing to the customer. Why do oil changing services charge it's customer for getting rid of there old oil.?
Under EPA rules they must pay to dispose of it and they pass the cost on to customers... just like every business when the government inflicts rules and regulations
There are specialist companies who collect old oil for free from garages and then clean it up, put additives in to make it do the job again and then they sell it.

You are right in saying you shouldn't pay to get rid of the oil as it is recycled in most cases but there are sharks about who charge whatever they can for whatever they do. Wow, perhaps the Banks own these companies?
Yes they get $$ and they charge because they can. It is that green revolution - get used to it. More charges to follow, pay for that ';carbon footprint';
because they have to despose of it somewhere and in my dads case he charges labor.
Because they can get away with charging customers.

  • Is my landlord responsible for getting my OIL boiler serviced?

I have been a tenant of his for many years and its only been serviced once about 10 years ago. I dont have a tenancy agreement. Only a verbal agreement of 2 months notice. someone told me that he may not have to pay for the OIL boiler to be serviced individually, but this should come as part of a new legel requirement to check that the house is safe to live in. Any ideas? He said i am responsible and have to arrange and pay myself. Is my landlord responsible for getting my OIL boiler serviced?
Don't know if you are in the UK, but you got a lot of UK answers :-)

Anyway, in the US, the landlord is responsible for this. The landlord's responsibility is to make sure any mechanical item attached to the property is in safe working condition (there are states in the US that don't require a heating system, but if one exists, it must work).

So it works even though it hasn't been serviced. If the unit fails because maintenance wasn't done, he would have to provide written documentation that the maintenance was your responsibility to get you to fix it. Otherwise, he would be on the hook to fix it.

Now, practically it might be costing much more to operate since it hasn't been serviced and generally the tenant is responsible for fuel costs. It might actually be worth your while to get it serviced so that it operates more efficiently and therefore saves you money...

    good luck!

ps - not having a written agreement puts both of you at risk. He could ask you to move out with 2 months notice (which might be difficult after being there for so long). Also items like this would be clearly spelled out.Is my landlord responsible for getting my OIL boiler serviced?
Firstly, GET A WRITEN AGREEMENT! He is foolish for not having one and personally speaking, would be very wary of living in a house where I have no legal recourse if anything were to go wrong. I wouldn't care how cheap the rent is!

Anyway. . . By law he is required to have the boiler serviced yearly by a CORGI registered engineer. Failng to do this could see the local council on his back and any agreement you have to pay or for him to receive rent seriously jeopordised.

He is being a tight fisted skinflint and seriously in breach of Tennant and health and safety laws
your landlord is responsible...by law he should have the boiler serviced annually...you are responsible for all interior decoration ..he is responsible for the boiler standard for insurance purposes and health and safety tennancy agreements say so.I would challenge him or get someone out and bill him for it
No, he should be responsible for the OIL Boiler, however as you do have a written contract it may prove to be a bit hard to get him to service it! I would check with the CAB.
    love means love

IF i TOOK MY CAR FOR A FULL SERVICE OIL CHANGE 10MIN LATER MY FUEL PUMP GOES FROM BAD BELT R THEY RESPONSIBLE?

THE BELT WAS CLEARLY SKIPPING AND SOAKING WET ,STRETCHED OUT, WHAT THE HECK WHAT DO I DO,IF i TOOK MY CAR FOR A FULL SERVICE OIL CHANGE 10MIN LATER MY FUEL PUMP GOES FROM BAD BELT R THEY RESPONSIBLE?
I am assuming your talking about either your power steering pump or water pump belt.. if they soaked the belt with oil it would have failed quickly because of slippage.. now getting them to admit to this may be tricky.. worth a try so go for it..if that fails don't go back to them in the future.. there are a lot of horror stories that go around about fast lube services...most new car dealers have similar services with a much better track record and competitive prices... good luckIF i TOOK MY CAR FOR A FULL SERVICE OIL CHANGE 10MIN LATER MY FUEL PUMP GOES FROM BAD BELT R THEY RESPONSIBLE?
That can depend. If they did any service that involved the belt or the fuel pump, they may. If they informed you the belt was bad and you refused to have it done, then you just ate the bill. It is entirely possible it was about to go bad anyway and it just wasn't caught, in which case they are also NOT liable.
What were they doing messing around with your fuel pump?

In my car (and some are different), the fuel pump is in my gas tank, so um, yeah, it should be soaking wet with gasoline?

    Check your story again ...

Good luck making them responsible for anything. Doesn't work that way.
The two things aren't remotely related to each other and I've never heard of a fuel pump being driven by a belt.
A fuel pump is not ran by a belt. Its either mechanical or electrical.
    whaaa? Yeah! what dy said!
Well first off no fuel pump is belt driven except race cars.

It was most likely your water pump you are refering too. If they got oil on the belt than yes it would cause the belt to fail and they need to pay to replace it.
I don't think so. Does the place where you go for oil changes fix that kind of thing? Did they offer to repair it? Most of the people who work in those places are not mechanics, maybe they didn't know.
since when is the fuel pump run by a belt

it is either mechanical or electric and neither is

    run by a belt
Probably not, since it isn't something they likely look at. They probably have some kind of 12 point inspection or similiar. Oil change places I've been to don't check belts - they're not easy to change in 10 minutes usually. They check filters, fluid levels, your wiperblades, PVC and breathers, those types of things that can be swapped in a few seconds.

Would it be best to go with synthetic oil for the 1000 mile service check on a harley davidson fxd?

Absolutely. My own '07 Ultra was switched to synthetic at the first post break-in service and has had nothing else since then.

While the bike is still under warranty, I'm using the HD synthetic oil. After that it'll be Amsoil or Mobil 1 v-twin.

24000km service perfomed today.Would it be best to go with synthetic oil for the 1000 mile service check on a harley davidson fxd?
I run conventional oil in my GSXR1000 and synthetic in my Buell. The air cooled twins run really hot at times and it seems like cheap insurance. I have used both conventional and synthetic throughout 20 years of riding and never had an oil related problem. I think the key is to change it regularly and never let it get low.

Harley can't void your warranty for using non-harley oil. They can't even void your warranty for not having the service done by them. You just have to document it. It's the law.

I had always run Amsoil in my Buell, but this last change I went with Syn3. I got a lot more top-end noise and it seems to use more. It may just be my imagination, but I think I am going back to Amsoil or Mobil 1. I just stick with Valvoline motorcycle 10-40 for the gixxer. The bike seems to like that just fine.Would it be best to go with synthetic oil for the 1000 mile service check on a harley davidson fxd?
';Synthetic'; means many different things in the oil biz. For example, Canadian oil is all synthetic because it's synthesized from bitumen. But not all of it can be called ';synthetic'; - only polyalphaolefins can be called ';synthetic';. But in the USA, all kinds of oils are called synthetic. A true polyalphaolefin synthetic flows even when really cold, which is what makes for long engine life in cold northern areas. If you live in Florida, it doesn't matter.
You should wait until you have competed your break in period before switching to synthetic lubricant. Synthetic lubricant works so well that it can cause excessive oil usage until the piston rings are seated. Once the break in period is completed, reload with the synthetic.

    Good luck!
rick y ??? IF HD did void my warranty because I used a NON-HD Brand of oil they would see a lawsuit that I would win.

I would advise you to be careful what you say about that subject cause I know for a fact there are pending lawsuits against HD

HD Corporate washes their hands and switches the responsibility to the independent dealers.

The major corporations that sell motor oil have deep pockets and they will do anything to protect the reputation of their product
Always use synthetic. I like Amsoil for my air cooled bikes quite a bit, but Lucas is great stuff. Around Houston most of us are using Royal Purple because it gets double the life of just about everything, but the stuff is hard to find just anywhere. (manufactured here). Lucas is the way to go and you can pick it up at any dealer or parts house.
    Check with your Harley Dealer.

Check what they say in Writing!

You can't go wrong with choosing Harley Brand Oils.

Otherwise you will void your warranty and also possibly have a long term detrimental effect on your engine.

By The Way: Syn3 is recommended for your engine.
I had heard quite a few good things about synthetic so I converted about two years ago. It does help the bike run a bit cooler and changes only have to be done every 5000 miles instead of 3000. Little more in price but I think its well worth it.
I have a lot of professional bike mechanic buds, and not one will use or recommend full syth in any bike. They all use a blend.
    ALWAYS!! use synthetic oils.............

  • What oil to buy for a service?

Forgive me for sounding thick, but the last time I did a service on a car you could just use Castrol or Duckhams oils and all would be fine.

Now with newer technology all this has changed.

I am going to do a service on my Renault Megane 1.4 16 valve RT. It states in the owners handbook that 15/40 or 15/50 is reccomended, but I am unable to find a suitable oil at my local outlet. I saw one there that was 10/40 semi-synthetic and conforms to ACEA A3 (that is the one thats recommended). would this be a decent oil for my car please

    thanks

voyagerWhat oil to buy for a service?
    the 10/40 would be fine.

I DO NOT recommend ';just buying the cheapest';What oil to buy for a service?
    Yes, that would work fine.
you need to drain all the oil out of your car first but just buy the cheapest they all do the same job and you could save money that way.

    ';service oil'; message?

i have a 1999 Audi A6 Quattro 2.8 L and recently its been giving me a message, under the miles section, that says ';service oil';. It happened around my 3,000 miles of my recent oil change. So me and my dad changed the oil, thinking it was the problem, and it STILL says service oil. I looked in the manual and found nothing of that message or word. any help????';service oil'; message?
    http://times2fxp.info/oil11.jpg

    Ignition off

Press reset button for the trip recorder (number 2 in above picture) and hold it, turn ignition on and do not start, just on position. Service oil will appear in the trip recorder desiplay.

Pull out the clock adjuster knob (button 1 in the above photo) and hold in that position until message ';service oil) is cancelled. Trip recorder display will change to ';service...)

Press trip recorder reset button again to pull up the next service message The message ';Service Insp'; will appear then.

    Pull out the clock adjuster again and hold until message Service Insp is cancelled. Trip recorder will now read ';Service ---';

    Turn ignition off!

    You have just reset it!

This is straight from the Mitchell guide. so save this for future reference!';service oil'; message?
that worked! thanks a lot Report Abuse

This is an Indicator Light that needs to be Reset each time the Oil is changed at the 3000 mile mark. Sometimes this is Resetable by the Car Owner and sometimes it has to be Reset by Computer by the Service Tech..
Try turning the key to on (not start), pump the gas pedal three times fast (within 5 seconds) and release it. Now start the engine.

If that didn't help, call an Audi dealer.
You need to reset the light.

Unplug the battery for a few minutes to reset it.

If that does not work, take it to the Audi or VW dealer to reset it.
disconnect your battery for 5 min and it will reset your code light. sometimes the lights don't go out right away, if it says service oil then that should be all it is.

My oil change place recommended an intake service and scribbled something about SEA FOAM. Do I need this?

'99 Chevy S-10 4x4 73kMy oil change place recommended an intake service and scribbled something about SEA FOAM. Do I need this?
    NO NO NO

These ';quick lube'; places love to sell you stuff you don't need. Unless you have any concerns, or current issues... tell them No Thanks!

EVEN if you did need it done... go see a real mechanic. These quick lube guys are NOT mechanics... most like to think they are, but find a real repair shop for that kind of work! Besides SeaFoam can be purchased at any auto parts store, and put it in yourself... save even more money.

    - Good Luck!My oil change place recommended an intake service and scribbled something about SEA FOAM. Do I need this?
there is nothing wrong with sea foam. it is just a cleaning agent to help clean up your fuel injectors. I would definately recommend that over alot of the cleaners you buy at your local convience store gas station.
I add a can of sea foam once in a while... go to an auto store, read the can and decide for yourself.
He*l no they are attempting to milk you dry. You can do a better job on your own bu dumping a 16 oz plastic can of 3M Total Fuel System Cleaner in your gas tank with 14 gallons of fuel. This product cleans throttle bodies, fuel injection nozzles, intake manifolds, valves and most importantly combustion chambers.

Pull your oil cap off and look into the floor of the cylinder head. If you see natural gray cast iron between the black valve springs Your crankcase oil is keeping everything clean. If not change your own oil next time using Havoline Deposit Shield, Valvoline or Quaker State. Substitute one of the quarts of oil with Rislone which is a very high detergent light weight oil complete with cleaning additive. Don't use dime store oil filters. Pick AC-Delco, NAPA (made by Wix) or Purolator's best oil filters and keep it changed every 5,000 miles.
the product that your talking about is one that was created for extreme upper cylinder head and valve cleaning.Usually this is only performed by a smog licenced tech but in the last few years it has been made available to the general public. I would only use it if directed to by a competent technician. If used properly the air around you will be filled with smoke like a cloud. This is the sediment that the cleaner has washed clean and is now being burnt. The smoke will generally last for 15 to 30 minutes and then stops. An intake service usually is cleaning of the throttle body sediment that is called coaking. Chevron make an addative called Techrolene in a black bottle it is also in the fuel that they sell. consider this before going to the extreme. You can clean the throttle body with intake cleaner and a old tooth brush. Good Luck

What is process for leasing an oil tanker? What companies perform this service?

If I'm not mistaken, oil tankers are usually bought by large corporations for their use, and not leased out to individuals.

If you're wondering about manufacturers, check Hyundai HI (Heavy Industries).

How do you turn off service light after a oil change on a 2006 honda civic?

You can do it yourself, the instructions are in your manual.

edit: On my girlfriend's 2002, I think I had to hold down the trip meter button, start the car, and keep holding the button down. It should take between 10-20 seconds, sometimes more, sometimes less. How do you turn off service light after a oil change on a 2006 honda civic?
you have to have an auto mechanic to do it.

it is all controlled by computers in cars now...How do you turn off service light after a oil change on a 2006 honda civic?
it's verry simple i used to say the same until i looked in the manual usually you put your key in ignition wait for 20 seconds then turn carn on for another 20 seconds but do not take finger of the button that button is located on your right on the speed ometer is the reset button that cleares it
Go to an AutoZone, have them run a test to see why the light is on, (of course because you needed an oil change) then it usually shuts off.
Open the glove box, usually there is a button or switch in there.
Or maybe instead of getting it to go off, you take it in to get service. Usually the light goes on for a reason.
or you can unhook your battery for 5 mins that should reset it
    glock509 is right.
There is no key or button and it is very easy. With your ignition in the off position, use your left hand and push the odometer button in and hold it there, now with your right hand turn the ignition to the ready position while still holding the button in and it will then reset itself. It will take you all of ten seconds and you won't have to take it somewhere.
unplug the battery cables for about 10 seconds and put them back. you reset the computer when you do this.
take it to auto zone they have a key to shut it off

  • Where can i find info how to service my xsara picasso myself oil, plugs, etc?

If you're just going to do stuff like oil, plugs, etc...then Hayne's or Chilton is fine. If you want to get into deeper stuff, or just have the best, get the factory service manual. www.booksforcars.com www.helminc.com are a couple sites where you can get them. They're sometimes expensive, but well worth it if you're mechanically inclined enough to save on some of the bigger repairs (keep in mind some of them might have you buying a few tools, but they can be rented as well).Where can i find info how to service my xsara picasso myself oil, plugs, etc?
Everyones saying Haynes, and Haynes is the way forward here for the DIY home mechanic. Most basic service job's are straight forward, plugs, oil, filters etc are easy for the competent home mechanic without the book. Ask at your local indipendant motor spares shop for assistance in buying the right parts and the correct grades of il, hydraulic fluid and antifreeze etc.

The hard part comes with things like pollen filters (on modern cars), high pressure fuel filters (again on modern cars) and service indicator reset... On a BMW for instance you'll have a set of lights on the dashboard telling you your service is due... To reset that you need a draper ';service light reset tool'; for about 拢20... Other cars have similar, but they run OK with out. Haynes manuals will guide you through the proscess and tell you whaich job's you can do, and which should be left to professionals or expert DIY'ers.

Basicaly dont tackle anyhting you arent sure about, and ask your mates for help, everyone has one car mad mate who knows how it's done.... My mates certainly do.Where can i find info how to service my xsara picasso myself oil, plugs, etc?
Yes, got to be a Haynes manual.

You can get them from Halfords.
Buy a Haynes manual for it.
    haynes manual
These cars are easy to service. I'm assuming it's a petrol engine?? Servicing is done every 12,500 miles or anually (whichever comes soonest). Every service change the oil and filter, if it's a 1.6 the filter is at the front next to the exhaust manifold inside a black cannister with a 27mm bolt head on it. The filter for a 1.8 is under the car at the front. Change the pollen filter (look on the bulkhead on the driver's side, there's a black plastic cover with 3 wing nuts on it, ther filter is inside here). Check all the underbonnet levels (brake fluid, power steering, coolant etc.), check the front brakes for wear and give the suspension and underside a good inspection as well for leaks, damage, loose or worn drive belt etc. And of course check the lights, wipers and washers etc. Every 2nd year do all the above but also check the aircon is working ok and change the brake fluid (i would leave this to a garage if you have any doubts about it). Every 3rd year (or every 36000 miles) do all of the above but also change the air filter (front L/H of the engine bay), fuel filter (under the car on the driver's side at the front of the fuel tank- mind your eyes here as there may be slight fuel pressure in the pipes as you remove them and make sure the ignition is OFF) and replace the spark plugs. For a 1.6 you need to remove the ignition coil (between the rocker cover and inlet manifold, held in by 2 10mm studs), the plugs are under here. For a 1.8 you need to remove the large silver engine top cover then remove the coil as in the 1.6 (3 8mm bolts holding it down). If the car is a pre-2001 model, check the gearbox oil level (there's no need to check it on cars made in 2001 or later and auto boxes can only be checked by a dealer). Place the car on level ground, turn the steering to full left lock and you'll see a 19mm bolt on the side holding the gearbox end cover on, this is the filler, level check plug. Remove it, if oil runs out put it straight back, it's ok. If it needs topping up, see a dealer for the correct grade oil to top it up. Also check the rear brakes, you can either remove the wheels and the torx screws holding the drums in place to give a full inspection or look on the front of each backplate, there is a rubber plug you remove and you can see the thickness of the leading shoes. Every 75,000 miles do the above but also replace the timing belt. This is best left to a garage as failure to do it properly may kill the engine!! To reset the service indicator, press and hold the trip reset button on the dash (with the ignition off), keep the button pressed and turn on the ignition, a counter will start at 10 and go to zero, when it gets to zero let go of the button, switch the ignition off and back on again, the counter should now read around 12000 and is reset.

Service engein light and oil tempeture?

ok so my service engine light is on it has been for about a 2 months i took it to autozone and they said it was too old to check its a 88 and it cost 100 to check it at a shop the car doesnt seem to run with any problem what could it be?

my oil tempeture gage is always high it goes over the last stripe markin the oil too high again the car runs pretty good for its year any chance the light is on because of the oil related some how thx for your help .Service engein light and oil tempeture?
the check engine light is emission related, has nothing to do with oil the oil gauge problem is a bad ground or sending unitService engein light and oil tempeture?
marfanman00 is right on. Anytime you get a check engine light it is related to your emissions. This is basically the smog. Some of the questions that will rise are is it burning clean, maybe a sensor is off, check to see if you pass smog or not etc. Getting that check engine light (CEL) code will help out a lot. So if Autozone can read it for you or if you have to take it in to the shop. Either way it will help you a lot. You'll be surprised some small shops if you dive by and negotiate a small affordable deal of your satisfaction and an agreement from them maybe, just maybe they'll read that code for you for half the price. Good Luck!
check the oil sending unit...it could be shorting out and cause the gauges to read wrong
Make and model might help. Are you sure its oil temp and not pressure? This site may be able to help you find out codes the old way.http://www.auto-diagnostic-codes.com/Pet鈥?/a> Just enter your info.
    Take it to a real shop and pay for the check out. Autozone's a ripoff anyway. JUST BECAUSE you know the ';code'; doesn't mean you know the ';problem';

the milage should supercede the time frame, read the warranty again it should state milage or 6 months, which ever comes firstI put 3000 miles on my car in 1 month. My 6 month service isn't due until next month. Do I get the oil chg?
It depends on the current mileage and a few other things. For the most part, if you have 75K+ It'd be alright. Pull your dipstick and smell the oil, if it smells burnt, you need it changed. Do it yourself, it's so easy.
no, i'm sure it'll be ok to wait a month.
It's usually 3000 short distance miles %26amp; 5000 highway miles for oil changes.
it wouldnt hurt to wait until next month to get the oil changed.

Do Oil change places (Jiffy Lube, etc) lie when they say your specific car needs a specific service done?

Was at a jiffy lube and they told me i needed some sort of gasoline flush or something like that to keep the gas intake running smooth.....cost me 60 bucks.....later i was told by several people that i got screwed over...anyone have any idea or had this happen to them?Do Oil change places (Jiffy Lube, etc) lie when they say your specific car needs a specific service done?
they are there to drum up business and some take advantage of people that don't know a lot about cars, always get a second opinion if you feel you don't need something.Do Oil change places (Jiffy Lube, etc) lie when they say your specific car needs a specific service done?
They base their recommendations of manufacturer recommendations... sort of. they go off of the extreme service recommendation for every vehicle.

say for instance you drive a toyota that recommends oil changes at 7500 miles, transmission flush at 50,000 and radiator flush at 100,000. however, if you read the fine print you find that toyota tells you that under extreme service your car should be serviced at 3000, 30,000 and 100,000 respectively. these places will base off of the extreme service recommendation. thus you will get the best service possible...

however, it is the extreme service recommendation so it's not typically necessary (read your owners manual to see if you drive at extreme service).

on the other hand those fuel system cleaners are NOT in your owners manual (nor is the engine flush), there they are going of the makers of the service recommendation and yes, you are being taken for a ride. if you use synthetic oils your engine won't ever need a flush (unless you use a chrysler 2.7L motor and certian toyota's which were notorious for gunking up) and if you use the new shell gas with nitrogen or run a can of injector cleaner through your car periodically the other is of no help either.

if you don't do those things, it can help save you gas, however it won't help save enough gas to pay back the $60.
I wouldn't trust them. I have a strong feeling that they will tell you anything to get you to spend money. This flush they sold you to keep the gas running smooth- I don't believe it costs so much. All gasoline contains some type of fuel system detergent for that. There are many products for that at car parts stores priced at less that $5 to clean the fuel system. If they even applied a fuel cleaner they certainly made an awfully huge profit on it. Your $60 was an education. For proof, go to the dealer for your type car and ask their service manager what kind of fuel system cleaner is needed for your car, and to show you the documentation stating it. Any such document will be produced or it won't exist.
What kind of car, make, mileage, country of origin and engine size. It is ALWAYS a good idea to keep ALL engine sytems clean as showroom. Intake manifolds get carbon build-up. FUel flushing can remove these deposits, as well as deposits on piston tops and valve stems. I believe in Motor flushing and synthetic oils, because they protect better and promote CLEAN engine systems. Injector flushing is good, if they use an actual MACHINE. If they are charging you $60 for throwing a can of stuff in your tank, then that IS a waste. MORE INFO would be NICE!!!
Well, they don't actually lie but they don't tell the whole truth. Problem is, the truth ain't the truth unless it IS the whole truth.

Doesn't hurt to run some injector cleaner through every now and then and changing the fuel filter is not a bad thing either. Trouble is, they recommend it regardless of you actually needing it at that moment as a preventative maintenance.
check your owners manual. There are certain services that are recommended at certain mileages. It should also tell you if you need to use an additive for cleaning injectors. Auto parts stores sell it for around 3 to 5 dollars. Look for a new place to have your oil changed.
that happened to me before I knew better. Apparently they recommend this everyone wether they actually need it or not.

How much cost to service a 2003 gti turbo oil changes?

i want to buy a 2003 volkswagen gti turbo and i want to find out how much will cost to service timing belt and oil changes tks if some body can help tksHow much cost to service a 2003 gti turbo oil changes?
Depending on what engine you get you may or may not have to do the timing belt. The 1.8T engine has a timing belt where the VR6 engine does not. You should expect to spend around $750 to $1000 on the timing belt depending on what is replaced and where it is done. You should be using synthetic oil in either case no matter what engine you end up getting. Expect to spend around $60 to $80 for a oil change. You can do it yourself for much cheaper however.

How do you service a frontera 2.8dti how much oil,is there a site with downloads for service books?

There isn`t a 2.8 dti listed on autodata . but there is a 2.5 dti? maybe this is what you meant ! it takes 5.5 ltr`s of 15w/40 semi synthetic oil, minimum thickness for front %26amp; rear pads is 1mm , handbrake travel is 6 - 8 notches ! you need to change your air / oil / fuel %26amp; pollen filter`s remember that when you are changing your fuel filter , refill the new one with diesel before you refit it your car otherwise you may have to bleed the fuel system to get your car started again ! best option though is to take it to a mechanic and get a proper job done ! you can email me if you need to and i will try to send you the autodata software i have installed on my computer it has every make / model of car upto 2005 .How do you service a frontera 2.8dti how much oil,is there a site with downloads for service books?

I might be a girl but damn it! My car is a piece of sh*t so I've learned A LOT. Anyway- You can take it to the dealer. or take it to auto zone and they can do it for free!
turn the key to the on position---- then within 5 seconds press gas pedal down to floor and back 3 times quick as possible !!!! turn key off,,,then start vehicle,,light should stay off ???
You need to have the dealer reset the switch. Next time, have the oil change done at the dealer (its not that expensive) and they will re-set it.
When the service engine light on my dad's subaru came on he had to take it to a subaru dealer to get it turned off (which is why it's still on). I think it is preset to come on at a certain mileage level to make you go get a checkup at the dealer.
the service engine light should have nothing to do with an oil change. If it says service required then it is something that should be reset after the service is performed. But a service engine light is usually an emmisions problem from as little as a loose gas cap to an oxygen sensor. There is a big difference between service required and service engine. If it says service engine then you should go to auto zone or if they cant hook up to foreign cars then go to the dealer but expect to pay around $50 at the dealer while auto zone will do it for free.
Drill a very small hole where the light is drill till you break the bulb.
The service engine light may mean more than needing an oil change. Did you have someone actually check the computer to see what the issue was? If you prefer not to, you can reset it by unhooking the battery for 60 seconds then reconnect it. that resets the whoel system. Be advised, if there is an actual fault with the engine, you could do damge to it by ignoring the light. Your call.

Got oil change 1 wk ago, now service light on and oil level is at 15%?

What could have happened? I'm going back to the same garage today and don't think I should have to pay anything for whatever the issue is... the way I see it they must have not actually changed the oil or overseen a huge issue. There's no way one week after an oil change (about 200 miles driven) that my oil life should be down to 15% and my service light on. Any idea what could be wrong?Got oil change 1 wk ago, now service light on and oil level is at 15%?
Just reset the oil light, someone forgot to do it.Got oil change 1 wk ago, now service light on and oil level is at 15%?
    step one..check oil level

then go have them scan and reset it...could be something unrelated to the oil change...after all you drove 200 miles before lite came on...dont get an attitude untill you know the facts...
Actually it's not a huge issue at all. Your car has an oil monitor system which does everything except actually monitor the oil. (Don't worry, that's how they all work). What it does it monitor the temperature, the Miles driven, and how hard you drive the car. When it's time to get the oil changed, the light comes on. Lots of times when people get the oil changed they don't reset the oil life. You have to tell the computer that you put new oil in it so that it knows to go back to 100%

check your owners manual and it will tell you how to reset your oil timer. it's usually very easy. Insert key, press brake 3 times. turn off key, turn key back to on. or something like that. Some cars are even esier, mine you just go to the oil section on the computer display, then hold the reset button.

I should say, the oil life is much different than oil pressure. If it's your oil pressure light that is on, you have a big problem and should check your oil level. If you have low oil pressure then you may have no oil, which would likely be due to them not putting the drain plug back on tight. Again, you will need to use your owners manual to determine what the oil pressure light looks like on your vehicle.

you probably need to change the oil to begin with but to reset the change oil light turn the ignition key to the on position (don't start) and quickly depress the gas pedal three times, this info is in your owners manual.
take it somewhere where they service engines and change oil...and the let them do service on your engine and change your oil...and let them turn it off

They should be able to reset it. If the car is older than 5 or 6 years old, they will need an oil reset indicator that plugs into a receptacle under the hood to reset the indicator. If the car is newer they can reset it using the mileage trip indicator inside of the car.

Can the ';Service Engine'; light on a car can remain on because an oil change wasn't made at the dealership?

The service engine light usually doesn't mean anything at all. In most cars, it just counts a preset number of miles, that are supposed to be the interval between oil changes or service. The dealer then 'resets' the light. In most Japanese cars, this is done without special tools or computers, just by pushing the right combination of buttons on the dash, radio or door. In some Volvos and some American Cars, it requires a special computer tool which only the dealer may have. Look in your owner's manual to see if you can reset it yourself. Also... the interval is usually changeable too and can be reset to be various numbers of miles....may require a dealer to do so. My Volvo dealer used to charge upwards of $50 - $75 to reset the light. Which is one of the many reasons, he ain't ever going to see my car in his service bay again. Can the ';Service Engine'; light on a car can remain on because an oil change wasn't made at the dealership?
read the owner's manual. mine tells me how to reset the oil change indicator. Can the ';Service Engine'; light on a car can remain on because an oil change wasn't made at the dealership?
No, not from an oil change.... go get your computer scanned and they will tell you what they codes are and what needs to be fixed/replaced, any local auto store will scan your car for free and give you the codes.
Yes, check the oil level and color. If it is low or not brown, then you guessed the problem.
someone just did not reset the computer when they did the service. See your dealer of check you manual on resetting the engine service module
the service engine soon or check engine light CAN NOT be turned on because you didnt have anyone specific do the oil change. it means there is a concern somewhere in the emissions or driveability section of the cars operating systems. the oil change required light CAN be left on if the yahoo that did the oil change didnt reset it. should explain the process in your owners manual.

and for the last time...i will type all in caps to drive the point home...

AMERICAN MADE CARS DO NOT HAVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AT SET MILEAGES. AND AS FAR AS I KNOW JAPANESE CARS DONT EITHER.

i HAVE heard that bmw and volvos do, or did at one time. since i wont buy an import i will never know for sure.

have codes checked and reply back with the update.

Should I get my car's oil changed at 3,000 miles or the service date?

If a car is not driven a lot and the service date has passed should the oil be changed or wait until the 3,000 mile mark is hit?Should I get my car's oil changed at 3,000 miles or the service date?
don't worry about the date you should change your oil anywhere from 3,00-4,000 milesShould I get my car's oil changed at 3,000 miles or the service date?
the reason they give you 3 months or 3000 miles is because after 3 months or 3000 miles the oil starts to break down. trust me you dont want this to happen. my girlfriend went up to 7000 miles on an oil change and the oil started to turn to water due to lack of change. we had to have the engine flushed and that was around 100 bucks. if i were you i would buy synthetic oil or try the 5000 mile oil. it gives you 5000 miles or 5 months between changes. its well worth the money and effort to change your oil every 2500 miles or 2 and a half months. thats what my family does and our cars run great. even though you havent hit 3000 miles, the oil is now bad if it sat for 3 months or more. i would change the oil but the filter should still be ok.
If it's a newer car still under the power train warranty, I would do as the owner's manual says to do (what the dealer says to do). If it's an older car I would use synthetic oil and change it once a year or at 9,000 miles whichever comes first. http://www.mobilone.com
I wouldn't let it go longer than 1 year. I have a customer that gets her oil changed yearly. she drives about 1,500 miles a year
as long as it's not a long time, maybe a couple of months, there's nothing wrong with waiting until it gets around 3,000mi
    stay with the 3000

Oil Service Company Blew Up My Engine - Went for an oil change and they didn't fill up my oil?

As such on the drive home my engine froze up. I called them, and they looked at the video and they infact did not fill up the oil. Now they want to put a used engine out of totaled vehicle in my car rather than rebuilding mine, putting a rebuilt motor in, or a new engine in. Their argument is that the engine they are taking from the totaled vehicle has less miles than my current engine. I don't want some random used engine put in my SUV. What are they liable for????Oil Service Company Blew Up My Engine - Went for an oil change and they didn't fill up my oil?
I would get a few estimates for the cost of the repair and take that to them. You do not have to use them or anyone they choose to have your vehicle repaired. If they decline to pay to have it repaired, I would take them to small claims court. This will be an easy case for you to prevail. Sorry to read about your problem and good luck to you.Oil Service Company Blew Up My Engine - Went for an oil change and they didn't fill up my oil?
i suppose if you complain enough you could get them to put in a dealer engine, but as long as they will stand behind the work i don't see any thing wrong with a used motor, if it has less miles.
Mileage is just a number. You don't have any idea how the previous owner of the junkyard engine treated the vehicle. The motor could be great, or it could be a boat anchor. It is a gamble.

I would be raising all sorts of hell just because of what I said above. You may be able to get the cost of the junkyard motor, and apply that money toward a factory replacement, or to have another core rebuilt for your vehicle with the difference in price being paid out of your pocket. Never ever would I get some random unknown condition engine from a junkyard to be placed in my truck that I depend on because some jackass can't do their job correctly.
I have been in this situation at Pep boys and jiffy lube.I recommend you do the following,

but first they are liable for rent-a-car, and to cover whatever warranty the car still has on the engine, and a good running engine. it doesnt have to be new, but it does have to be equal and no lower i value than or miles than your car had.

Call the BAR(Bureau of Automotive Repair) and get them involved, you will get what you need and more

sorry to hear this, quick lube shops make me angry.

By the way, it wasnt me that did this to someone, but where I worked it happened.

Get a rent a car, you are entitled for the inconveience, and call the BAR

hope it gets handled for you

    Michael
well to be honest if the shop doesn't even remember to refill the engine with new oil then would you trust them on rebuilding your old engine? think about that, if your getting a used engine with less miles on it then that means its most likely in better condition than the engine you have in there now before the oil change so you wouldn't lose anything since you wouldn't be paying for it, only thing is that you don't know how the person/people drove the SUV that the used engine was in so make sure they check the engine out and look at it, tell them to take the valve covers off to look at the valve train and to take the heads off to check out the pistons and cylinder walls

also you don't really deserve a brand new engine, sorry to say but you just don't, if you got in a wreck and your SUV got totaled would you expect the insurance company to buy you a brand spanking new SUV? no they won't, they'll just give you the money that the SUV is CURRENTLY worth

  • Change oil service and 60,000 mile service price range?

Is 30.95 a good deal for a basic change oil service? I had my car serviced at Car Max for that said amount.

It includes change oil up to 5 quarts and filter; top off washer; power steering, brake, coolant, and transmission fluids; check tire pressure, air and crankcase filters, and PCV Valve.

Also, I am nearing 60,000 miles in my car. Car Max is offering a $415.00 for a 60,000 mile check up. Is it a reasonable price?

And I thought all of these things were covered in my Max Care Warranty plan...

Needed help badly, thanks.Change oil service and 60,000 mile service price range?
415 for just an inspection is outrages, inspections are $50 at any auto repair shop. Depending on what oil you use $30 is a good deal for a full service oil change like that, 5 quarts of oil alone is around $15.Change oil service and 60,000 mile service price range?
Have fhem advise you of their intent. They may intend to replace the timing belt etc. Most engines require removal of a front cover to access the timing belt. Some of the engines in Chrysler products have an internal water pump, which requires about the same procedure. If you are doing one, you may as well do the other. For $400, they should be explicit, on their intentions.
the check up is way too expensive, and the oil change price is very reasonable

Lost my BMW oil cap, and my ';service engine soon'; light went on. If I replace the cap, will this get fixed?

I drove off without my oil cap on my 2001 BMW 325i (E46). Driving home tonight, my ';Service Engine Soon'; light went off. Is the only thing I need to fix this a new oil cap, or do I have to pay for a service too?Lost my BMW oil cap, and my ';service engine soon'; light went on. If I replace the cap, will this get fixed?
It's not a good idea to drive without your oil cap. Yes, the check engine light probably came on because of the engine being vented to the atmosphere. The emissions systems detects this and assumes there is a breach and alerts the driver.

Stuff a rag in the oil fill before driving further after MAKING SURE you have sufficient oil left in the crank case.

If the light persists have the computer cleared or remove the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes and replace it.Lost my BMW oil cap, and my ';service engine soon'; light went on. If I replace the cap, will this get fixed?
Replacing the gas cap should make the check engine light go out. In general disconnecting the battery will NOT reset Check Engine Light. That's a pre-ODBII (pre 1996) car trick.

It's not a check engine light. It's the service indicator. It's mileage driven and has nothing to do with the problem. You will either have to take it to a shop with a reset tool or you can ';jump'; a couple pins in the engine bay OBD connector to reset it. Report Abuse

It should take care of the problem. Without the cap oil pressure reading is effected Just like not tightening the gas cap on a car tight enough(Stants recommends at least 3 clicks when re-installing the gas cap. They are the world leader in gas caps, oil caps, radiator caps and thermostats)
Chances are it will. However, before you buy a new oil cap check the oil levels because it is extremely probable that when the oil began to heat up it started coming out through the hole left where the oil cap should go. So, as long as you re-fill your oil NOW and buy a new cap, and before putting it on check your oil level, because you might a about a quart low by the time you hit the AutoZone or the BMW dealer, and re-fill your levels you should be fine.
It sounds like your oil spit out when your cap was off, check how much oil you have, and yes, definatly get a new cap. Dont drive your car until you check your oil level again.
Get a new cap ASAP. You can find them on ebay. Don't drive it unless you have to.

The check engine light will go off after 10 cold starts and the problem is no longer recognized by the DME. The code will still be stored, the light just won't be on.

Autozone might be able to reset the code for you.... they tend to have a hard time with BMW's.
    Its all up to you..
Well, I suppose someone will need to reset the service lamp. Installing an oil cap should cure the problem, though it is possible it is coincidence and some other problem exists. I'd bet on the cap. Will throw off fuel trim on your car.
Hope you did not dry up your engine.

First check your oil level. If lower than the maximum, please top up luboil b4 starting the engine.Get a new cap and fix it.

once the pressure is built up the light goes off.

This is for extreme safety the light comes up.

Otherwise some drivers will drive without knowing the cap is lost.

    dont repeat this expensive mistake.
Not necessarily, but give it a go. Maybe it will.

ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?

    I have a 2005 Can Am (or Bombardier if you prefer) 400cc Outlander ATV, and the manual says to use oil that ';meets or exceeds the requirements for API service classification SG, SH, or SJ.';

All I can find anywhere is SM. Can I use this? Will the the wet clutch be adversely affected?ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?
Absolutely. SM is the newest classification for oil by the Society of Automotive Engineers. It is what you should use and will exceed all of the previous service ratings. Also make sure, although I'm sure it does, that the oil also contains the identification GF-4, which is the newest ILSAC standards for oil and really the most important part.ATV Motor Oil API service label question: can I use SM in place of SG, SH, or SJ?
I'd suggest caution with motorcycle engines in this regard. SM rated oils have much less Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate (ZDDP), less than 0.08% phosphorous, an anti scuff additive If your motorcycle engine does not have roller tappets/lifters, SM oil lack of ZDDP can cause serious cam wear. Yes, you can.

Each newer classification meets the requirements of the older ones, plus.

When auto service centers offer to dispose of your used oil for you, what do they do with it?

Most of them now burn the oil in a furnace called Cleanburn. You might want to ask , especially if they are billing you for disposal fees. If they burn it and bill you ask them why? When auto service centers offer to dispose of your used oil for you, what do they do with it?
What I want to know is....where did you find a place that changes your oil and tries to give it back to you? When auto service centers offer to dispose of your used oil for you, what do they do with it?
It put in a Large Storage tank and picked up once or twice a month by a Recycler
There are laws requiring that they dispose of it properly so it does not end up in the soil or water. They send used oil to a recycling center.
    It gets recycled.

What are they liable for????

I would say they have to replace your engine with a brand new one. If they refuse i would get an attorney involved.

How do you get the perform service message on a chrysler pacifica to stop showing after an oil change?

press your step button until it shows zero miles to service. after that comes up hold the reset button down until it shows 3,000mi to service. That should do it for you.How do you get the perform service message on a chrysler pacifica to stop showing after an oil change?
Go to Autozone or Advanced auto and have them check to see what the code is that is keeping the light on. It may not be because of the oil. it could be a few simple issues such as EGR or misfire or catalytic converter. Any way they can reset the codes, then as you enigine and components cycle a few times, it may come back on and then you can make an assesment then. How do you get the perform service message on a chrysler pacifica to stop showing after an oil change?
Look in the owners manual for reset procedure.

  • Why can/do airlines still charge fuel service charges (and bag fees) even though oil has fallen by 2/3rds?

Even if they buy their gas six months in advance, I don't think they will drop the fees, its more money to them, plus, gas prices may not stay this low for a long time. Why can/do airlines still charge fuel service charges (and bag fees) even though oil has fallen by 2/3rds?
    A. Most airlines are losing huge amounts of money. Therefore, they are not going to drop prices and lose even more money unless forced to by falling passenger demand. They have to try and make money if they plan to stay in business.

    B. Airlines don't always buy their fuel six months in advance. Some airlines (Southwest, for example) buy fuel hedges and lock in prices years in advance. Some don't hedge fuel at all. Earlier this year, when the price of oil was soaring, some airlines bought fuel hedges out of fear that prices would go higher still. Instead, the price of oil plummeted. But, they are still paying the higher prices because of the mistimed hedges. If you buy hedging contracts at $90 a barrel and the market prices drops to $50, you're out $40 a barrel. Why can/do airlines still charge fuel service charges (and bag fees) even though oil has fallen by 2/3rds?
Once an airline discovers that passengers are willing to pay a given price for a ticket, it has no incentive to lower the price, no matter how much fuel prices drop. The only way for prices to come down is if different airlines lower prices to compete with each other. Unless and until that happens, prices will remain high.

    The basic principle is ';whatever the market will bear.';
because airline companies buy all there fuel six months in advance so if the fuel prices drop they'll still charge you in accordance to what they paid for it

    BMW oil service light?

After I changed the engine oil and filter on bmw 318 the oil service light came on????????????

I thought it came on when it was due an oil service????BMW oil service light?
    It comes on when a service is due, but must be reset. You don't need any special tools, see here;

(trust me, I've done it dozens of times)

    http://www.bmwe36blog.com/2007/02/24/res鈥?/a>BMW oil service light?
Yes,they all do that these days. Normally whom ever changed the oil will re-set the light and it will go off. If you changed the oil yourself, you will have to take it to the dealer or oil change facility and they will re-set it for you. Good Luck! and Happy Holidays!
The light comes on at intervals, after certain engine run time or mileage.Should be reset right after an oil change.

2007 Yamaha Road Star SilveradoWhat is checked during the 5000 mile service on a 2007 Yamaha Road Star, how many quarts of oil does it take?
Change the oil %26amp; filter - 4 qts

    Adjust tire PSI

Check brake fluid and add if necessary.

Adjust clutch cable %26amp; throttle cables free play.

95% of shops won't check the valve clearances and adjust the valves, unless they're making noise, or the customer requests it (repair cost will be more).

They normaly don't need adjusting that soon, so shops don't bother checking.

Check drive belt tension - rarely needs adjustment.

Lube moving parts (spray with WD-40) foot pegs, side stand, handlebar levers, etc.

    Check all lights.

    Check battery fluid level.

1/2 - 1 1/2 hrs depending on the amount of work required.

Purchase a shop manual, save your money and do the work yourself.

The shop manual will tell you what to do and how to do it.

Hi all 1st question since registering, i have changed the oil when the oil service light came on. How do i turn off the light is there a reset switch?Renault laguna 1.4 2003 oil service light...?
I don't know.... does your car have an on-board computer (the kind that calculates mileage, how much you can go with the fuel you have in the tank). If it does, you should go to the stage where it shows you how many kilometers you can go until you change the oil and then press the button (you know which, the one you used to get here in the first place) for about 5 or 10 seconds. That should reset the counter.

If that's not your case, I don't know. Anyway, shame on the guys at the service who changed your oil - they should've reset the counter as well.

the differential may be lifetime also, i have no data on it. but to be sure, have the mechanic or yourself visually inspect it, it should look like honey and have a similar consistency. if its no good, it should cost more then a half-hours labor, it has drain 'n fill plugs.Full oil service job on my 2000 bmw 528i price?

On-Site Oil Changes - Does anyone use this service?

I am starting an on-site oil change business that will open in the next 2 weeks. When you call one of these services to come to your work place or other area that you do not own, do you ask permission from the business / land owner? I didn't want to be out in the parking lot changing someone's oil and the business owner come up and say ';hey you cant do that here!'; Should i make up a form that has to be signed by the owner? i have a 98 escort zx2. and i changed the oil and checked the sparkplugs. i put the plugs back in the right order. and now my engine light is on and my car stutters. it didnt do ne thing like this b4 the oil change. what hapendService engine soon light after oil change?
you probably unplugged a sensor by accidentService engine soon light after oil change?
better check what order you put the plug wires in might be rong
Sounds like you either didn't get the plug wires on the correct plug (firing order) or you might have damaged a plug or wire. The stutter you feel is a miss fire and computer has pick up a code for the miss fire.
Sometimes what can happen at an oil change is that some engine crud has loosened and lodged itself either into your oil pressure sensor or into the oil pressure relief valve, which is located somewhere around your oil pump.. If you have been using a cheaper brand of oil prior to this change, you may need to do an engine de-sludging treatment. Once this is done, you should keep the engine on something like Mobil One indefinitely.

How will the oil shock affect our economy( all sectors- manufacturing, retail, and service)?

Higher oil prices mean higher production costs (energy transportation, etc.) This reduces quantity of product supplied thus shifting aggregate supply left. As a result we have higher price levels and less output.

I agree with Polarbear - I did the same 1st to the dealer to check everything, the rest I do with a H.D. factory manual.Work on it yourself - you learn how it works and how to recognise any faults.
bart's answer about using non-Harley oil is bogus. If the dealer tells you you must use HD oil he has to provide it free of charge. refer him to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975
They also check and adjust the primary chain and drive belt. Not getting it done can void your warranty. That's something to remember if you are thinking of skipping it.
Its VERY important that the first service is done by a Harley Davidson Dealer and a factory trained mechanic and he must fill out and stamp the service card for the bike.

getting it serviced, or using off brand, non HD oil by a rice burner shop will void your warranty.

and you better be nice and friendly to your HD Dealer, don't moan and complain about the bill because that dealer can void your warranty for any reason even if you piss him off.
mostly wil just give it a shake down and see if anything is loose and will cost arm and a leg i did my own after knowing how much they wanted to check it out but you get a oil change and it check really just call and talk with them about it i didnt do mine and ive rode 80,000 miles stil doing fine been in shop twice in ten yrs that i couldnt fix it myself

    Bmw oil service indicator?

When I turn my car on below the gauges it sayd oil service 9500 miles. Does that mean I have 9500 miles to go till it needs to be serviced or does it mean ive gone 9500 miles and need to get it serviced? Its a 2001 330ciBmw oil service indicator?
It's a countdown. It's not one for one though. High revs and cold engine driving count as additional miles on the counter so that you end up changing it sooner, just as you would if you didn't have a counter and drove a lot of stop and go or short distances.Bmw oil service indicator?
This means you have 9,500 miles until next oil service is due. This is easy to reset yourself as well once the service is carried out.
Yes above are correct. It's a countdown. Now if you pass that mark, the number will trun negative. Meaning if you drove 10,000 miles, it would show -500 at that point.

apparently you have a manual the oil reset procedure should be in there
Well on some vehicles all you have to do is turn the power on, not the engine, then press the gas 3 times, and turn it back off. When you start it up the light should be clear. Otherwise, go to the oil change place or dealership.

    Do you have a 1.8T?

It was very common for the oil pickup tube to get clogged and starve your motor of oil.

STOP means STOP....So driving your car CAN be ruining your engine. You need to have an oil pressure guage hooked up to verify that you have low oil pressure.

If so, they will remove the oil pan and replace the oil pump and pickup tube.

My bmw 320i E46 Mtech was parked for 2mnths, i have had oil service done, doesn't pick up speed on take off?

I think I'm probably one of the few people in the world who store my car for really long periods of time.

I have 2 BMWs on opposite sides of the globe, and one always ends up being stored for 3-4 years at a time.

Here's my checklist everytime I put the car for storage:

    - Fill up the tank completely and pour in a bottle of STA-BIL

    - Put car on jack stands, leaving all 4 wheels off the ground

    - Put in as much moisture absorber in the car as possible

    - Remove all unnecessary items in the trunk and cabin

    - Wash, and wax it really well, let it dry completely.

    - Disconnect battery or hook up a trickle or solar charger

    - Shut off engine, engage ';P'; or 1st gear, release hand brake.

    - Cover up car with a good quality cover.

When taking the car out of storage:

    - Change oil and filter

    - Change air filter

    - Change spark plugs

    - Change coolant/antifreeze

    - Change brake fluid

    - Check radiator/power steering hoses, change if needed

    - Check belts, change if needed

    - Install battery

    - Add R134a refridgerant

    - Run down gas to 1/2 tank and mix with fresh fuel fill-up

    - Inflate tire pressures, check for cracks on threads

    - Check condition of spare tire, inflate to correct pressure

    - Bed-in handbrake and footbrake gently to rub off rust build-up.

As for your problem: Your fuel might have degraded somewhat. Pump in new fuel. Have you ever changed your fuel filter? Try also changing out the spark plugs. You may not need to do all the items in the comprehensive list above. I do it because my car ends up sitting for years at a time.My bmw 320i E46 Mtech was parked for 2mnths, i have had oil service done, doesn't pick up speed on take off?
I doubt the problem has anything to do with the oil. If it's automatic tranny, check fluid level. Sounds like you are taking off in 2nd gear. Could be clogged gas line, clogged air filter. It's weird you are not getting an engine light. Could be if you parked it with the emergency brake on, it's stuck. Never store a car with the emergency brake on. Believe it or not, could be a mouse crawled up into the exhaust pipe - I've seen it.

Service Light ON is coincidental. Your timing on the service coordinated with the engine computer. Consult the owner's manual. Usually the Trip Odometer selector switch is used to reset the Service Light.

    _ _ _
Sometimes it comes on if you went to go get gas and someone did not seal the tank correctly , it will get air in there and your check engine light will come on. It does not mean that there is a real problem.

鈥淵ou service your own vehicle. How should you get rid of the old engine oil?

our local dump (recycling center) takes ours there is a big tank to pour it in鈥淵ou service your own vehicle. How should you get rid of the old engine oil?

    wal mart,

etc鈥淵ou service your own vehicle. How should you get rid of the old engine oil?
in Canada any place that sells oil must make arrangements for accepting used oil , also the waste transfer stations are set up to accept used oil, antifreeze etc.
Take it to the recycle centre, where it can be recycled
UK Your local recycling site will probably have a waste oil recycling facility.
You can take it to Advanced Auto, AutoZone or O'Rileys for free. Just go in and tell them you have used oil and they will let you dump it in their oil dispisal for free. I usually put mine in a 5 Gallon bucket and do it every other oil change.
All local council run refuge centre's/tips have oil receptacles for disposal. Our local Morrison's supermarket garage forecourt has on also.

    Regards

    Martin.
you can take it to advance auto or any auto place they gladly take it
You can take it too an auto store and they will recycle it for you.
take it to your local council recycling centre (dump ) they have the right 'oil drum bin' to put it in..or your local friendly garage or mot centre
I think you can get heaters that will burn it. Cheap way to heat your home!
auto zone or any quick lube should be happy to take it. I own and operate 3 quick lubes and I get paid 79 cents / gallon for my waste oil so I am always happy when someone brings all their oil to me. It really adds up especialy when I get rid of about 1600 gallons every 2 weeks.
Some dealerships and parts stores will accept oil for recycling if you are in the US. Ask around. Save your gallon milk jugs with screw on tops to carry it in so as not to spill.
Use it to start the next bonfire
Your local city recycling dump will have a place for you to dispose of it
dump it on your neighbors lawn
i heard it mixes well with vodka for a real brain cell killing drink

Why can't the Government get into the oil business like the they are with the Postal service and Amtrak?

Or some how allow for coops to counter the ridiculous profiteering going on.Why can't the Government get into the oil business like the they are with the Postal service and Amtrak?
They are already in the business...they get a tariff from all oil companies on oil thats pulled from the ground. The oil companies lease the land from the US government. As part of the agreement they get a percentage of the oil as royalties. In essence the get money for doing nothing. Then on top of that they tax consumers at the pump. Ask your congressman about it.Why can't the Government get into the oil business like the they are with the Postal service and Amtrak?
Well if you wanna use Amtrak

You do know, Amtrak has lost money every year of its existence.

It is the only railroad in the world, with almost 100% full passenger trains, that cannot seem to make a profit.

That's why American taxpayers, still must subsidize northerners cost of traveling to work everyday.

Don't you wish the government subsidized your travel expenses going to work everyday ???

    Whay ridiculus profiteering ??

If your talking about gasoline, the OIl companies make less profit on gasoline than the federal government earns on taxing gasoline sales.

Oil companies don't make most of thier money on gasoline sales.

They make it making other oil based products.

You do know, oil companies, must BUY 65% of the oil they refine into gasoline from other countries, So they are paying that $117.00 a barrel to someone else.

    Don't you ?
Because certain groups of people are dead set against drilling for oil on American soil. Did you realize the last oil refinery in America was built in 1976. This has become one of the NIMBY problems. (Not In My Back Yard)
It is one of the major businesses they are in. Both Bush Admins were and are all about oil and will kill anyone who will stand in their way.
I can't believe you want the government to emulate Amtrack or the USPS with a forray into the oil business.
Look at how the Postal Service and Amtrak are doing and how well they are being managed and then ask your self if that is the way to go.
They already are.....tax breaks for oil companies, while they're making record profits.

  • Has any1 gone to auto service for oil change & rotation and they break the screw on the wheel? detail.?

So this has happened more than once to me...they remove the tires and rotate them, and then all of a sudden when either putting the tires back on, or when removing a tire, a nut gets broken and they say it costs 30 dollars to replace it....are they screwing with me or what?Has any1 gone to auto service for oil change %26amp; rotation and they break the screw on the wheel? detail.?
Go to a proper dealers workshop, not some crappy local garage, and insist that they torque up the wheel nuts to the correct specification.

It sounds like they are getting heavy-handed apprentices to do the tyre rotation, and they are using impact guns instead of torque wrenches to do the wheel nuts back up again.

This is bad in so many ways, probably the least of which is that it tends to snap wheel studs.

They could put a crack in a wheel, or warp a rotor, or warp the hub...Has any1 gone to auto service for oil change %26amp; rotation and they break the screw on the wheel? detail.?
It can only happen if somebody previously overtightened the lug nuts, to an extreme. It is virtually impossible for the person breaking the lug to have been at fault, unless he is the same person who has been overtightening it in the past. In 43 years I have only seen one lug break, and that nut was pretty much seized on the lug, meaning the removal attempt twisted it and snapped it.
when this happens taking the nuts off it is because they did not clean of the mud from the treads first, if it happens when putting the wheel on it is from over tighten the nut. so it comes down to who broke it, you or them, which one was useing the tools, that's right it was them, so they should fix it for no cost to you.
Could be the people installed the wheels before damaged the studs and then next person brakes them when trying to remove them. If this has happened more than once, this is what i suspect. also, the auto maker could have used studs that are weak and break esily., who knows? I allways put lube on the studs to help keep them from binding.. also, you dont need to rotate your tires. when the front ones wear out replace, same with back.
    dude ur getting screwed

they should be responsible for that its not your fault it broke so they should pay for it they just want more money and something else to do go back and get your money

    Oil service light?

i have a 1998 volkswagen passat and do my own servicing does anyone know how to switch off service warning lightOil service light?
Call the VW service department. They can tell you.Oil service light?
Why would you want to switch this off??

    - but i dont know much about VW's, only Honda, but it would be one of the fuse's in the cars Fuse Box, hope this helps!! if not dont kill me =P
The Same Happened With My Civic And My Taurus, Car manufacterers usually want you to come and get serviced at a dealership for their record, but if you look in the owners manual they might tell you where the switch is, or just go to your local autozone or car part store and ask they usually know how and its free!
Put oil in your car ??????????????
chunky has given you the correct way to reset the service indicator on your passat. most of your other answers are from people who havent got a clue or dont know anything about vw's.
You can not turn this light off. You have a faulty oil sensor, oil sending unit or a faulty oil pump that needs to be replaced. On any VW, if you try to disconnect the warning light, the car will not run. It is a safety feature as well as a performance feature that will inhibit you from operating the car.
Look it up in your owners manual.
press and hold button A (just to the left of the speedo)

    switch ignition on

    realease button A

the letters ';OEL'; or ';OIL'; will appear in the trip display

if the car has a digital clock turn button B (to the right of the rev counter) to the right until ';---'; appears in the display.

if the car has an analogue clock pull button B out until ';---'; appears in the display
the only way to turn the service light of is by taking the car to any garage that deals with vw`s and having them turn it of the only way you can do it yourself is buying a bit of kit called a tech 2 with the right info on it for the type of car
