My BMW is due its first service which is just an oil service. Can i take my own oil as long as its bmw ?

approved. As the labour rates are so high im trying to save money to get the service book stamped from an official dealer. Also do I really need the the micro filter replacing as the car is only 18 months old?My BMW is due its first service which is just an oil service. Can i take my own oil as long as its bmw ?
The simple answer is yes you can take your own oil. I have serviced many many cars where the customer has supplied their own oil.

Engine oil is probably one of the best earners in terms of mark up for dealers, however as long as you supply the correct grade of oil then supplying your own oil would definetely not be a problem. The savings wouldn't be great, but a saving is a saving.

With regard to your microfilter, they do become clogged up in one service cycle and I would advise you get in changed to keep your heater/ a/c system working well.

However, as with the oil you could supply your own aftermarket microfilter. Again, as long as it's the right part it would not be a problem and would be another way of saving some money.

You would still get your service and the stamp in the book.

In addition to the above, your warranty would NOT be affected at all.

In fact now we have ';block exemption'; you could in fact get your car serviced by someone else (not BMW) and still be covered by warranty as long as the vehicle was serviced according to BMW specification, and you had evidence of this.

I would however advise a dealer service, as a dealer stamp in your service book would hold more value in the future potential sale of the car.My BMW is due its first service which is just an oil service. Can i take my own oil as long as its bmw ?
An oil change on a BMW couldn't be easier to do your self. Run the engine for a few minutes, jack up the front off side, take the drain plug out of the sump and leave it to drain into something. Meanwhile open the bonnet and remove the lid of the oil filter container - it's about 4 inches across and looks like a miniature dustbin. Take out the old filter and put the new one in, replace the lid. When all the oil has drained replace the sump plug, let the car down and refill with oil. If you want to use engine flush, use paraffin. Takes about half an hour and will cost about 拢15.
Dude, the car cost lots of $'s because BMW's are worth it.

Don't try and save a few $'s cutting corners, take it to the dealer, let them do the job and you keep your warranty.

If you take your own oil and the engine seizes in a few months, it won't be covered by your warranty as BMW will claim that the oil you supplied was at fault.

It's not worth the risk,

Andy
i strongly recommend that if it is only 18 months old to get it all done properly by the books. there shouldnt be a problem with bringing your own oil as long as it is the right recommended spec for that engine. microfilter should defiantly be replaced if you wish to be able to claim warranty in the future
for what u are going to save on the price of oil its not worth it ,if the micro filter is down to be changed ,then do it.treat ur car right and it will pay in the long run
No, don't even ask. They're in business to make money. That's like going to a restaurant and bringing your own food ! If you want to save money, do it yourself.
I WOULD THINK THAT IT WOULD NEED REPLACING IVE GOT A BMW M3 AND I USE MAH OWN BMW OIL IN IT SO I WOULD THINK THAT YOU COULD
if you want to save money, take it to a garage, not the dealer.
You wont save money that way.
why did you buy a bmw if you're worried about saving money?
