Follow the recommendations in your owner's manual for maintenance and go by that. I never check my oil between service :) My Kia recommends checking Oil and Coolant every fuel change for example. But even once a month is enough.

But yea, check under the vehicle before you drive off for work in the morning, if there's a pool under your car, you definitely got a problem. When to top up engine oil after service?
1 u should check oil weekly if you want engine to live

2 check oil day of service..ive had dealer send cars out with NO oil in them

3 engines burn and leak oil...the first 1/2 liter takes a while the rest burns/leaks quicker.[more heat]

you are ultimately responsible for your car.
There are several things to bear in mind when checking oil levels.

1. Always check the level when the engine is cold (ie after being left over night). This will allow all the oil to drain into the sump and give an accurate reading.

2. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean with an old rag or kitchen roll, re-insert it and then pull it out again. The end will have minimum and maximum marking levels. Check carefully where the oil comes to.

3. There is usually only a need to add a small amount of oil to go from min to max on the marker. If you need to add oil, MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME TYPE AS THAT ALREADY IN THE ENGINE. Check the handbook for the correct details. Mixing fully, semi, or non-synthetic oils can be VERY bad.

4. Over filling can cause as much of a problem than under filling. If dipstick measurements show that oil is needed, only add a small amount at a time (say 1/4 litre) and wait a while before rechecking (note 1 %26amp; 2).

Other points are - does the oil level warning light come on at any time during driving? If so, stop immediately - engine wear can be instant.

Does the exhaust contain a lot of blue smoke when the engine is warmed up? This can signify that the oil is being burned and major engine work may be required.

Lastly, it is normal for cars to use up small amounts of engine oil over time, so topping up is sometimes necessary if you do a high milage.
check your oil level and top it off as needed. If it is using oil and dropping that much in between regular service, you either have a leak or some worn internal engine components.
