Don't unhook the battery...that's just tomfoolery. The answer to your question should be well hidden in the maintenence section of your owners manual in the glove box (if you still have that). Some cars have a reset button in the fuse panel but I bet yours is reset using the stereo module. You'll have to get the codes for the service engine light cleared and the problem repaired before it will go out. Check that your gas cap is tight.
